My time dining - table & time

Recommended Posts

We are considering switching on our next cruise. There will be 7 of us total. The only way we would want to do it is if we can get the same table and waiter at the same time every night. Can this be done? If so, do you just ask them the first night to make a standing reservation for us each night and we just go directly to that table.

We've always been happy with Traditional Dining but have gotten spoiled with Galveston cruises doing 2nd seating at 8:00. It appears Mariner will go back to the traditional 8:30 and we'd like to try for a 7:30 or 8 pm start.

We've chosen MTD for our last 4 cruises and have had the same table and same waiters every time except for twice - once each on 2 different cruises.

You can book the same time each night before you board (via your pre-cruise planner) or can vary the time if you so wish. If you find you particularly like your waiters on your first night you can request the same table and same waiters each night and you will have the same dining experience as those not on MTD. If you choose to vary your times (which we've done on several occasions) you may get a different table and/or waiter but, in general, they will try to sit you in the same area with your usual waiters.

If you really do want to eat at the same time every night then you should always be able to have the same table and same waiters. This is one of the good things about MTD when the dining times don't suit. We often find that cruising in the Med the late times are too late (at 9 or 9.30 pm) but the main dining is too early, so we can book a time in between which is just right.

We just did MTD and had a standing reservation for the same time each night. We did have the same table and wait staff. We still had to check in with the hostess each night though. We didn't just go straight to our table. Have a great cruise.

We had nine on Mariner, I went to the MTD podium upon boarding and made a standing reservation for the week. It worked out great!

We did exactly this with our group of eight on Serenade. We liked the wait staff for the table the first night so much we locked in the time and table (only one that large they were serving). So table was set due to wanting the particular servers and we just went straight there every night. Actually as we approached one of them would come and wheel my wife to the table and then stow the wheelchair before we would have had a chance to "check in".

I think the check-in bit would be less needed as the cruise progresses and a pattern is established. We did however make sure to let them know the night we were all going to be at Portofino.
