They say blue drinks win quite a lot... if that helps at all :)

My sister did this on a cruise before and she got some free drink coupons just for participating, and a cocktail recipe book. She didn't win - but I don't remember what the winner got.

I had planned on entering too and this is the information that I have: The day you embark on the ship, look at the FunTimes, it will list a place to meet and sign up for the contest. They only have a certain number of enteries so be early. It is somewhere around 4-5pm and they will give you a locatioin. If you do not sign up, you will not get to enter. This is also the time they will give you a few minutes to work with a bartender to get some advice and practice.

Here is a list of the liquor that you can choose from. The list is from Oct of last year.

You choose one from each catagory and cannot use any soda pop as a mixer.

Group#1) Rum, Tequila or Vodka

Group #2) Melon liquor, peach schnapps, blackberry brandy, apricot brandy, rasberry liqueur, creme de banana, creme de cacao, creme de menthe, butterscotch schnapps, blue curacao, triple sec.

Group #3) Cranberry juice, pineapple juice, OJ, sweet & sour mix, pina Colada mix, strawberry daquari mix, banana daquari mix.

NO Soft Drink Mixers.

**** Here are a few tips that were given by the judges: Give your drink a catchy-name,

***** Frozen drinks seem to be more popular

****** ...... and personality counts, get up there on stage and shake-it-baby, No monotone frumpiness. For a guy, wear a loud print shirt, make yourself stand out to the crowd. ----

Good luck and have a great time.

Any champaigne? I have a nice recipe for Caribbean Champaigne.

My drink with Blue Curacao was bright blue. The guy after me mixed some wierd stuff together and his drink came out Black. The CD made fun of his drink and compared it mine, saying "here's the blue caribbean sea, and here's the Mississippi river" Color and presentation does matter.

We did not get to made our drinks ahead of time, they just went over our ingredients and made sure to have them on the table. We got keep the 1/2 of our drink the judges didnt get.

In 2010 the winner got 5 bar credits, a drink book, and a funnel hat. The runners up got a drink book and 2 bar credits.

In 2011 I only got 3 bar credits, a medal, and a drink book for winning.

When we did this last summer, the "rocks" drinks seemed more popular. I made a frozen drink and there are a lot of stipulations with this. Not much liquid can be added to the frozen mix or it won't be the right consistency.

We did not get to try them beforehand. They looked at the ingredients and invited ones that looked good (put on a personality as you hand in your form though--they want fun people up there!). We got to drink a full glass of our drink and we also received a drink booklet.

Anyone recall if fresh fruit is available for a garnish? I've got an idea for a drink, but it requires an orange slice...

Erin

I wondered about this as well... are limes, lemons, cherries, oranges, available?

Yes, you get to make a drink a couple of hours before & the bar manager & all the contestants get to try it. Then you can make adjustments at the contest.

Not when I was in the contest in January. It was one shot during the contest only.

I have a question about these mixes (Pina Colada Mix, Strawberry Daquari Mix, Banana Daquari Mix). What exactly are they (or what is in them)?

  • 2 years later...

I have a few I could try and or change a bit if I have to fit the first listed criteria but one drink I love to do requires half and half, can that be used? And I was happy to hear about the sprite because one of my drinks would be really strong without it.

I have won half the times I entered! Well, OK, I did only enter twice, but I did win once.

I entered on the Triumph out of NOLA in March 2010 and 2011. Both times, the rules were WAYYY different, so you might have different experiences on different ships based on the crew.

Entry #1 - Only 3 people showed up to sign up. I was automatically in. They picked 2 more out of the audience just before the contest the next day. I made a "Caribbean Sea" - 1 rum, .5 Blue Curacao, and Sprite. You CAN have sprite, but not COKE because it can't have caffein in it due to allegies. At least that's what the guy told me. After we made our drink, we had to dance around to mix the drink. I almost won, but I learned a valuable lesson - the more alcohol, the higher your chance to win. The guy that won put DOUBLE everything in, even though we were told not to.

Enttry#2 - Same ship, 1 year later. 11 people signed up. 3 were disqualified because you can't use RedBull. They randomly pulled 5 signup sheets out of the 8, and I made the cut. The next day, we made our drinks. Exact same drink as last year, but this time, as I poured the shots into the mixing glass, I continued to pour extra in from the bottle. I heard the head bartender exclaim "oh, that one's gonna hurt.". I knew this was a good sign. We didn't dance this time, instead we explained why we liked our drink. The taste testers said my drink was really strong. Then they picked it as the winner. I got to keep my drink, and they gave me 2 drink coupons plus a Carnival bartender book. At the end of the cruise, the bartenders said they sold a lot of my drink. Where's my commission?

I agree with Scottohiocpa, don't skimp on the liquor. MY sister entered on the Miracle three cruises ago (I think), and came in second place. The winner had the right combination of ingredients, and the liquor made me take a seat (they sometimes pass out little Dixie cups to passengers closest to the stage/judging area when some if left in the blender/mixer). On two cruises that I have been on where I attending the mixing and judging, the main complaint is thats its light!!!!! The drink should be palatable, and contain the right mix of ingredients to make it drinkable or likable by the judges which usually include one staff member and two guest that they pick out the audience.

Do you have to be 21? In Mass you can be a bartender at 18 (he is 19) even though you cant drink. My son bartends and I know he would love to enter.

Can't definitely answer, but I doubt CCL will let him enter. They won't allow alcohol or go to casino unless 21, so probably the same with this. Just ask the staff when you cruise, and he may be allowed to enter.

  • 3 months later...

I just got off the Dream and we filled out a sheet and it was Rum vs Tequila as in Red Frog vs Blue Iguana....

I wish they would have allowed Vodka....

THere were a lot of entries and only 4 of us got picked. I did a non-sweet drink... as I hate sweet drinks but it lost out.... oh well :P

none were frozen drinks

However there were not restrictions on how much, they encouraged a lot... like 6 shots of Tequila or Rum.

Dance, dance and dance... though.
