wife2b Posted October 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2011 Is there a formula for why and when they do price drops? I'm positive something like this is not publicized but I'm wondering if someone has figured it out (if there even is a "formula"). Obviously the goal is to sail full, right? So if a particular sailing is unpopular they drop prices to entice last minute cruisers- am I off base here? Our upcoming cruise is one out of two using ES that we've received price drops ($380 total OBC ). Just wondering if there is something specific about this cruise that is causing so many price drops. Thanks for any helpful info :)
firefly333 Posted October 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 14, 2011 Nope, no rhyme or reason anyone knows. Carnival doesnt tell anyone how full the ship is, so there would be no way to measure. You need to know that.
serene56 Posted October 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2011 out of 15 cruises only 2 ever came down in price
timetogosoon Posted October 14, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2011 I've checked ours again and again and they never drop. I check how many rooms are available and it keeps fluctuating, so I don't know if people are just upgrading, or if for some reason they don't post all the open rooms, but there are a TON of balcony rooms available and the price never drops. Bummer.

Thanks for any helpful info :) Yes- it is a terrible ship and a horrible itinerary so they are trying to get people to waste their money. Not really, of course. There is a major computer algorithm which reviews sails regularly- every several hours I have heard. And I am quite certain that this is a hugely guarded secret. It appears to work well- Carnival makes a wonderful profit annually.

I booked ES for a December cruise on the Pride and the only price drop I saw that I would qualify for actually matched my ES price! :(
Earthworm Jim Posted October 14, 2011 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2011 I'm sure there is a formula. But even if we were privy to it, which we are not, it wouldn't do you any good without all the data that needs to get plugged into it for each particular sailing.
