Anytime Dinning and show times?

If you can get seated before 6:30 PM there shouldn't be any problem making an 8 or 8:15 show but there might not be seats available since people get there 30 + minutes to reserve them. If you start dining at 5:30 PM, there's no problem at all. The biggest problem is showing up at the dining room door at 6 PM only to find there's a 45 minute wait for a table. Larger tables are notoriously slower dining. People like to talk about everything & slow down the whole dining process.

Definitely do NOT sit at a table for 8 if you are planning to go to a show after dinner. We did that once and ended up having to skip dessert in order to make it in time for the show. It took forever for the waiter to serve our large table.

Generally speaking, Princess has two seatings of their main Production shows in the Princess Theater ... 8PM and 10:15PM. (These time can vary, so check your daily Princess Patter to be sure.) Some popular shows even have a third seating the next night. So, Anytime Dining will work perfectly to catch the shows. My wife and I always do Anytime Dining, and we also enjoy going to the big Production shows. We haven't missed one yet.

One tip ... the later show is almost always less crowded than the early show. To get a good seat at the early show, we get there about 45 minutes early, and bring a book. If we're going to the late show, we can get there about 15 minutes early and get the same good seat.

We sailing on the Caribbean Princess next week and was wondering what times are the various shows held?

Shows in the Princess theater usually start about 8:15 and again at 10:15. Some nights it may vary by 15 minutes. Some nights the 10:15 show will be at 7:00 instead due to other activities scheduled at 10:15 such as a deck party.

Entertainment in the Explorer's Lounge usually starts within 15 minutes of the shows in the Princess Theater. If you time your dinner well, you can make both shows most evenings.

The daily showtimes will be printed in the Patter, the daily schedule of events which will be in your cabin when you arrive on embarkation day and then delivered to your cabin each evening.

We've just been on Coral Princess to the Panama Canal. Had Anytime Dining, which we prefer. We'd go for dinner around 7.30/8.00 and would always make the 10.15pm show. Like a previous poster said, if you have a large table it takes a little longer to be served, so if we were offered a table for 2 on show nights, we'd take that. You just have to work it out in the daytime, see what things you want to see, and then plan your dinner time. We had no problems with it. I think we saw a comedian early one night, then had dinner, then went for a 10.15 show. It can be done!

  • 2 weeks later...

We are taking our first Princess cruise, traveling with another couple, and will be doing Anytime Dining. From what I've read, it sounds like the evening shows are done in different venues.

Could someone please explain how the shows on Princess work?

Cruisemor, Main productions are in the princess theater. Comedians are usually in the clubs. You will receive the Princess Patter, a newsletter/schedule of all events and locations each evening in the mail slot outside your cabin door the night before, so you'll know where and when everything is.

Oh yea. That was necessary since many people couldn't get to see the production shows in just two nights showing & it saves Princess lots of money in the process since that don't have to pay for guest entertainers on those other nights.

That's the key right there. It wasn't like that in the past.

I wonder what they were thinking putting a 800-900 seat theater on a ship that holds close to 3000 pax?

It lead to some early nights going to bed for us since there was nothing to do some nights if you didnt want to go to the casino.

The shows in the Princess Theater will be scheduled twice in one evening. On some ships, a show may be repeated once the following evening.

The shows in the Explorer's Lounge or Vista Lounge/Club Fusion are also usually scheduled twice in one evening.

Those in Anytime Dining can schedule their dinner in order to attend a show in the Princess Theater and a show in a lounge the same evening.

Funny thing about the guest entertainers, we hadn't seen one guy in many years & I had even forgotten we had seen his act in the Fusion lounge but the whole routine came back to me as soon as he began his show. I doubt if he changed a dozen jokes from 5 or 6 years prior. Sometimes it pays to go back to the cabin & watch a movie. ;)

That's why I like the ships with MUTS. I can lay out on deck and watch a movie.:)
