Delays due to Coast Guard Drill?

Recommended Posts

Hello expert cruisers!

We are sailing on Allure next Sunday and someone posted on our meet & mingle page that there is going to be a Coast Guard Drill on the day of our sailing and it will be delayed. Someone told her to plan on boarding at 2 (generally boarding on the Oasis class starts around 11:00 or so.)

Does anyone know if 2:00 is a pretty good bet? I don't want to spend all day sitting around waiting, but I also don't want to wait until 2 and find out people were able to board at noon!

Sometimes (depending on the type drill) the answer is "Yes" 2 is a good time and sometimes you can go at 11 and process from the street to the Wind Jammer in 20 minutes........ Roll the dice, prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and take what comes. It's a nice terminal to wait in but who likes waiting? You will probably get the entire range of personal expirences on this one but the fact is no one knows until it happens on any given day. Enjoy your cruise. It is a fantastic ship and crew!! :)

I think I would go to the terminal at 11 as planned...with the idea firmly in mind I "may" be waiting for several hours...bring something to read...snacks..maybe some water & just camp out...worst case..you have to wait...but I always "wait" better when I am where I am going to end up...hate waiting around killing time at a hotel...

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I'll share it anyway...

In March, I did a Solstice cruise during the norovirus outbreak. I got to the terminal around 11 and they informed us that boarding would be delayed...they offered to let us check our luggage into the terminal and then leave on our own or book a tour from the terminal.

I guess my point is this...go to the port and see if you can board, but think about a back up plan like a day at the beach or a ride on the water taxi. So long as you're not lugging your suitcases around, Lauderdale is an easy place to navigate.

Last November we had to wait for a Coast Guard Drill /inspection on the Liberty of the Seas. I believe we were allowed on the ship at around 12:30 rather than the usual 11am. It did get a little chaotic, but I attribute that to being at the Port of Miami. Priority boarding guests were shoved in to little rooms with no seats to wait. When they finally let us board the terminal was full of people that didn't appear to be happy that priority boarding was escorted onboard while everyone else had to wait behind the ropes.

The good news is that you are going on the Allure with a very nice, large, accommodating terminal. Even if you have a short wait there will be seats and an organized boarding procedure once it begins.

We are on the sailing sailing (11/6 Allure). In April they had a coast guard drill when we were supposed to board the Jewel and they let us on around 1pm. We sat around for about 1 1/2 hours.

We plan on arriving around 12 - 12:30pm which is a bit later than we would usually arrive.

We are also on the 11/6 Allure.

How did you find out about this drill? Is it 100% confirmed?

We were planning on being at the port by 11 or so and would hate to have to sit there and wait for a couple hours.

Someone that had just boarded the Allure last Sunday came over to our roll call and posted that there was going to be a drill next Sunday the 6th to give us a heads up. Some crew member told them
