Smoking areas on Carnival Freedom

I am going on the Freedom this moth and still have not heard a definite smoking policy. I know there is no smoking in state rooms, but are there any areas inside the ship that I can smoke? Also is the entire starboard deck a smoking area or is it just small areas? Could any one name the clubs that allow smoking. All I have read is that some dance clubs allow smoking. I would like to know where I can, so that I do not upset the nonsmokers. Also I have heard that it depends on what staff member you ask as to what answer you get. Do they have a map of smoking areas that would be so much easier for every one. Please if your a nonsmoker do not leave negative personal opinions about smoking, I would just like to get the facts as to where I can smoke and not bother others. Thanks for any info.

On the starboard side of the ship you can smoke on the open decks - Lobby (deck3), Lido (deck 9), Panorama (deck 10). There is no smoking allowed in the serenity area so if you are there you can just go down to deck 10. You are also allowed to smoke at the bow of the ship outside the "secret doors" on decks 6, 7, and 9. No smoking in the staterooms but it is allowed on your balcony. As far as inside the ship you can smoke at the casino bar (one side only), the disco, and the Swingtime Jazz Club (deck 5 aft). This is the new "cigar bar" as well. Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise!

I am an ex-smoker (18+ years) and now days really hate the smell. I would like to thank you for being responsible and considerate.

Enjoy your cruise!

But there are a few smoking non considerate people that have ruined things for the majority of us. The do gooder non smokers tend to group us up as if we are all inconsiderate. NOT SO!

I hear you. As time goes on, there is much less tolerance for smokers.

When I started work for my current Company, we could still smoke at our desks. A couple years later, we were 'exhiled' to smoking rooms. 5 years later, these inside rooms were moved to outdoors undercover. Now, the campus is smoke free and those who still smoke have to go outside to the curb.....And many non-smokers 'grumble' about the 'extra' breaks the smokers 'get'.

Couple the above with the skyrocketing cost and I am glad I was able to quit and stick with my choice. While I respect smoker's right to smoke in designated areas, I appreciate having designated non-smoking areas where I can go to avoid the smoke. I truly appreciate the considerate smokers who comply with the rules and use ashtrays, etc. On the Conquest last month, there were 3 I saw on a regular basis on Port side of open decks......Even when I mentioned ashtrays were available on the 'smoking/starboard' side, they did not move on. I have zero tolerance for cads like this!

So to all you smokers who follow the rules and are considerate of us non-smokers, I thank you......

It is the same in my line of work. I have worked offshore for 17 years. when I started you were aloud to smoke any where. Then it was in the wheel house or engine room. Now it's outside in a designated spot. I went to the E-cigs for for the wheel house, I get stuck up here for 12 hour shifts at times.

Hopefully Carnival will not change the policy any more and every one will know and go by the rules. Then maybe every one will have a great cruise. It looks like I will have a short walk from my room to a smoking area and will not ever be to far from where I can smoke. I was getting worried about running all over trying to find a spot.

  • 4 weeks later...

I just wanted to add that even though the Piano Bar is now nonsmoking, the smoking lounge is literally just across the "hall" (so to speak) ...

for the convenience of smokers.

Have a great cruise!!

We just got back from the Freedom and loved it. There are not many smoking areas, but it was not bad at all. The starboard side of the lido deck(endless pool), starboard deck outside the lobby, some areas of the casino, and the Swing Club are all open to smokers. We were mid ship on level one so to smoke we walked out the door and took the elevator straight to the lido. In all it took maybe two minuets to get to a smoking area. And I never saw any one smoking in the wrong areas. If your not sure just look for ash trays on the tables or the metal ash trays on the bulk head of the starboard side. Hope every one has a great cruise.

I don't buy that 90% of cruisers are nonsmokers:rolleyes: (Exclude children). I have always found it a little strange that they talk about how few smokers there are on the ships and yet:eek: go to a smoking area and there are plenty of people there. On the Lido deck the smoking side will be full...look across to the other side and there will be plenty of tables:eek:

Wow! A civil thread about smoking! I knew we could get along!:D

I went onboard expecting to be fussed at every time I lit up but I heard very few complaints about smoke. Carnival seems to have done a good job with keeping it decent for everyone on the Freedom. And I actualy did not mind the smoke free bunk room at all.

Just doing some quick research I found in 2009 the US smoking rate was 20.6% (probably a bit lower today). Given that the passengers are a cross section of society its probably a safe bet that 20% of a typical passenger load smoke.

I don't have a dog in this fight as I feel Carnival is doing a good job satisfying the reasonable non-smokers and smokers. Unfortunately, there are nuts on both sides of the equation.
