How long can you stay on the ship on disembarkation day?

Hi Lissvarna! I have stayed in my stateroom until as late as 8.45am. I do however usually order room service breakfast on that day of debarkation. I order it for early about 6.30 or 7am at the latest, and then I linger over my coffee and croissant and fruit, and take my time getting ready to leave, and I usually have an early afternoon or mid afternoon flight booked for my way home. I have heard the cruise director say in his/her debarkation talk, that you can stay as late as 8.30 or so! therefore once I stayed till 8.45am, because I had a late debarkation number/zone, and as I usually, if not always do tip my room steward extra the last night of the cruise, he did not knock on the door, or bother me with getting out of the room. And that last time, when I stayed in the room till 8.45, I had a very high number for debarkation. I went up to the promenade deck at 8.45 and found a seat. Sat there until close to 10, before my number was called. So, I suggest you discuss it with your room steward, and also treat him/her well on the last evening, and you will be able to stay in your room easily until 9am. Also ordering room service helps, as they know that you are not going up to Lido for breakfast. JMHO. but works for me.:)

I give Carnival plenty of money so I have no issue with getting off the ship as late as we can. I seriously doubt that is going to effect the enjoyment of the next passengers, btw.

Oy....I'm sorry, but this comment is a bit on the self centered side........

Can we do self assist and handle our own luggage, but stay on the ship until around 9:30am?

We're thinking about leaving our room 8ish, and then go up to Lido for breakfast with our luggage (one 24" suitcase for each of us), and then just leave until our number is call or around 9 sthg, whichever is later...

I dont see why not. You can stay on the ship yet for a bit, but I have heard on more than one occasion the cruise director say in his/her debarkation talk, that they appreciate it if you are out of your room by 8.30am or so. Latest I have stayed in the room was 8.45, and they still calll debarkation zone numbers up till about 10am.

Could someone explain the difference between the self assist debarkation and zone debarkation?

We have a flight at 12. When I booked, my PVP said I could go to the desk and ask for an early group leaving.

Does self debarkation allow you to leave whenever you want? Thanks :)

Self Assist debarkation means you take all your luggage with you when you debark. You cannot put it outside your room last evening. You must carry everything with you in the morning when you debark. the purpose is for early debarkation. Self assist is called first. If you want to leave later, then there is not much point to it. Also if you have a lot of baggage, it would be difficult. but for those with relatively little luggage and who need to get off early, it is a good thing.

self assist debarkation, is when you can bring/drag all your luggage off yourself. zone debarkation, you leave luggage outside your cabin with the allocated colour luggage tag on, they take them away and off the ship, you pick up your luggage when you get off the ship, but before customs. you cant get off before your colour though incase it hasnt been off loaded yet.

We've always done self assist, mainly because I can't wrap my mind around giving up my luggage the night before (family of 5...that's lot's of thinking when mom and Dad are too busy enjoying the last night on the ship!) Does anyone have a tried and true strategy for what to keep behind? Do you just stuff pajamas and toiletries and such into a carry on in the morning?

We usually go the the Sheraton Ft. Lauderdale Beach Hotel and spend the day. It's close to the pier, the beach is nice, the outdoor dining and bar area is great, they hold your bags with no problem.

My boyfriend and I had to choose between a cutting it close flight or a late flight, and we chose late. We don't have anything planned for Ft Lauderdale that day. How long can we hang out on the ship, ha? What time is everyone usually off by?

Also, do they serve lunch this day, or only bfast?

Exactly, we pack up everything AFTER we are in our jammies, leaving just toiletries and tomorrows clothes hanging in the closet. I put out my suitcases hoping nobody sees me in my nightgown! The next day I have my toiletries case and my purse to carry and my husband has a carryon with our jammies and electronics.

  • 5 years later...

Following-up on this thread from earlier in the year: I have not been successful finding a FunTimes for disembarkation day, which makes sense. However, I would expect that there would be a schedule somewhere that indicates which dining venues are open for breakfast and from when-to-when. Can someone please point me toward that?

We have so far done 2 Carnival cruises. In both cases we were not on the road until almost noon. For our first one we were trying to do the self assist and waiting in the line that went through the smoky casino (when members of our party were allergic to smoke and we avoided that part of the ship by switching decks to get through) It was the one part of the cruise that was really stressful and left a bad taste in our mouth.

For our second cruise we put most of the luggage out the night before and went up to the Lido deck and munched away until the buffet was closed. We then went and played mini-golf and eventually our number was called and we left the ship without being encumbered. The line for a porter was fairly long, but as Canadians coming into the port at Texas, the customs line for non-US citizens was quite short. It was much more relaxing this way.
