Cigar smoking on the Gem

I know that technically the only place to smoke a cigar on the ship is the cigar lounge, correct?

Now, we are in a deck 9 penthouse on the bow. The balcony has a ton of space including a lot of privet seating. Do you think the cabins to either side would even smell my cigar, let alone be offended by it of I were to smoke on the balcony while we are under way?

That being said, that kind of question posted here will predictably attract nasty replies from those of very strong opinion and self importance.

 

Put on you fireproof suit, light up a cigar, sit back and enjoy the ride as you watch this thread develop.

Yes, the policy is no cigar smoking on balconies however cigarette smoking is allowed (Dont understand that one, my wife HATES smokers. I was one for 20yrs, and she hates the smell but a cigar she can put up with)

 

As far as the wind, we actually dont find it windy at all. We have been at sea where the decks were windy as anything but our balcony was calm. I think its the way the wind blows over the shape of the balcony. If I went up to the railing, it would be blowing but as I went back close to the door there was nothing. We are on deck 9, I think deck 10 SE's are more 'exposed'

 

Anyway, with the size of the actuall balcony and the design of the ship I really don't think anyone will complain, but I will be sure to ask my neighbors. Im somewhat confident that as soon as I ask, I will have a smoking buddy.

Cigar smoking is flat out not permitted on balconies. The type of person who thinks they're above the rules deserves to be flamed. This isn't even remotely a legitimate topic for discussion or differences of opinion.

What about smoking on the ship?

We want you to be comfortable on board, so public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke cigarettes, you can do so on your balcony, in the casino or in the Cigar Bar (where available). If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Also, you can smoke cigarettes, pipes and cigars outside on open decks (just not around food venues, sports decks, kids’ pool areas and other designated nonsmoking areas). Smoking inside your stateroom will result in a $250 cleaning charge added to your onboard account.

Actually the new policy says no cigars or pipes on the balcony.

Just going to have to light up and ask the neighbor, if they come out, if they can smell it. Again, im sure they cant and im kind of sure they will just want to come over for a cocktail and a smoke :D

No...cigars and pipe smoking is prohibited on all balconies. The "open deck" wording refers to public areas of the ship. From the original announcement:

On the small balconies in balcony rooms I can ABSOLUTELY understand why cigar smoking is a no, no. I'm actually amazed that cigarette smoking is allowed. I would never consider lighting up on that balcony. The reason I asked the question is because the foward SE balconie is HUGE, we had 15 people on it with plenty of room to spare. The way its situated would make it very hard for smoke to make its way to the neighbors although the cabins on deck 10 may be impacted more then I would like. So i asked a question, that's all, just a question. I already know the policy, no need to point that out.

You sound like you could be considerate. Make sure your cigar does not bother anyone. If you think it may be affecting someone, either stop or ask them if it's OK. What's wrong with that?

But the answer may be different this year with the adoption of the revised rule. In any event the OP isn't in a DOS, so even if that exception is still allowed, it doesn't apply to him.
