Last Minute Questions - Eurodam 2/18

This is our third HAL cruise but our first with a suite and retreat cabana. We also have friends traveling with us who have cruised on Celebrity but not HAL. Thanks in advance for all of your advice.

1. We will arrive the day before and plan on being at the ship first thing. I want to sign up for a cooking class, Tamarind lunch, an excursion and a ships tour. Can this all be done in the Neptune lounge or do we go to the Main desk? If we can do this all at the Neptune can we book for our friends also - even though they do not have a suite?

2. Will we be able to use the retreat cabana as soon a we board? Can we use the gym and thermal spa the first afternoon?

3. On formal nights is formal attire required in the Pinnacle or Tamarinde for dinner? DH is starting to whine about a suit, although he would be happy in a blazer and khaki pants.

The concierge will make all your bookings for you. If your friends are doing the same reservations with you, concierge will book them as well.

The spa and gym are not available on embarkation day.

Dress code on the ship is for all venues. If it is formal night, that would be for Tamarind and Pinnacle, as well.

Your DH would be considered dressed 'formal' wearing his jacket, trousers and a tie. He doesn't have to wear a suit. HAL's definition of 'formal' is as basic as they can make it and jacket and tie is sufficient.

Eurodam is a beautiful ship and we've enjoyed some wonderful cruises on her.

Enjoy.

The Lido restaurant and the no-fee Canaletto are exempt from the "formal night" designation. The Lido usually offers most of the main dining room choices in a more casual atmosphere. Also, you can order room service from the dining room menu during dinner hours. (You can really get into a lobster tail while wearing a bathrobe on your verandah. Trust me, I've done it twice.)

On our Eurodam cruise in Nov, I told the Neptune conceirge that we didn't want to dress up for one of the formal nights and inquired about Canaletto reservations and we were told that was formal, too.

maybe that is what they would like, but from what I have seen, most in the Canaletto are smart casual as on the Lido. Some people dress, but not many.

OP - your concierge(s) should be able to do just about anything for you. Rarely any need to go to the Front/Main desk

He was telling you what he was told to say, because technically the entire ship is formal on formal nights, including the Lido and Canaletto. Also lounges, casino, theater, etc. In practice, however, the only places where the code is at all enforced are the MDR, PG, and Tamarind on the Sig ships.

One of the main reasons they like the whole ship to be formal is that you are more likely to take photos when you are dressed up. They have all the areas set for this with the Captain etc. Believe it or not this is a pretty big revenue generator for them. Most people that will spend $40 for a picture do it on formal nights!

Captain does not do the receiving line/photo line up as in past years. It has been some time since they switched over to Captain's Toast.

OP.... you do not have to dress formal to go to Lido and Canaletto. Not many people would wear shorts to Canaletto but pants and a polo shirt or equivalent is fine.

Hi. I'm on the current Eurodam cruise in a suite and with a retreat cabana.

You can use the cabana immediately upon arrival.

The Neptune Lounge concierge will make all the arrangements you need. I would recommend making them when you arrive.

The Lido and Canaletto are casual on formal nights. This is just my opinion, but why restrict yourselves for dinner on two of the seven nights when all you would have to do is pack a blazer for your husband? The menu in the MDR is usually the best on the two formal nights.

Have a nice cruise. The ship is wonderful and the staff very helpful. Tom.

I agree with all but just want to add a blazer and a Tie would meet HAL's dress code for formal nights.

the gym and spa are open for tours until at least 5pm and maybe 6pm. you might be able to use the gym earlier but until they shut down tours no thermal spa. my nephew headed to the gym after early dinner and quite a few were actually in there exercising/lifting.
