Enchantment of the Seas Delayed at Cruise Maryland

Wow... Possible blown motor. How long does that take to replace??? Definately not safe to run without full power. If they get it fixed in a day, what port gets the axe so that they can still make a trip?

I would guess that EN could skip Key West. . . They will probable not skip Port Canaveral (I would think)

There are many berths that Enchantment can dock at the Port of Baltimore. . .

Yeah, it' actually a large port... It just only has one active cruise terminal due to limited usage. I imagine that if they can't leave before Pride arrives they'll just move over to another berth either by tug or on their own limited power.

Thanks Radio..

and no, there aren't any cameras at the port...I think Radio said that there's an inner harbor cam, but i doubt that you can see the pier...it's pretty far away...

There are no Web Cams at Cruise Maryland. . . I wish there were. . .

Kind of like when I was on EX after the prop incident a couple years ago...we skipped SJU, had a full day (like 7-11PM or so) in STT and a really funky looking wake! Of course, all the passengers had to take a turn rowing!:D

In all seriousness, I hope they can get it fixed (or put on the marine equivalent of a band aid) and get out of dodge ASAP!

to those on the ship...fingers crossed...grab a beverage....and hope for the best!

yeah we rode her too with the prop issue. I forgot about that.

what are you doing on EN? You helped me out so much with stuff about EX that I figured you lived on it, LOL.

I have a co-worker on that ship and of course it's their very first cruise. Hopefully they will get it fixed fast and head out of dodge in the middle of the night and not lose out on any ports. I did text him and told him to go with the flow that being on a cruise ship is better than being at work even if it's sitting at a port dock.

There is definitely enough room. The only problem would be if they had to process passengers from multiple shops through the terminal on the same day. On good weather days like today we like to go watch the cruise ships sail under the Ket bridge and so we did that today, but no ship.

they COULD probably do some repairs at the pier...though they may NOT have parts..and well, you can't just go to Auto Zone and buy them! (or can you:confused::p)

they MAY be able to get to the point that they could go SOMEPLACE and try to fix it in another port...

again, i am only basing this on past experience...i am no where close to a marine engineer.....but when we were on EX they were able to get to St Thomas and cut the damaged prop off...and there have been other times where things were able to be repaired in other ports...enough to get through to the next scheduled dry dock......

We are on EN in about 3 months-ish

I TRIED to live on EX...they found my hiding spot...something about 'uh ms. megr1125 where is your ticket?' Had to call in a LOT of favors to NOT get thrown in the brig! (kidding...)

We were looking at EX but the dates and more importantly money weren't working so well...

I hope they can get it fixed!! sheesh......can't wait for more info..though prob not tonight!

THAT is awesome advice!! Hope your friend understands that SHIP HAPPENS...though I will say this really stinks! And perhaps the group coming to the ship can do something....

But..VERY good of you to throw positive karma to your co worker...hopefully s/he can spread it throughout the ship!

hopefully it is a ruse and its just another crew drug bust.

important question is the casino open.

good luck to all who are on her.

Can't open the casino or duty free shops... Still in US waters...

There had better be some deals at the bar though. Wonder if they are allowing guests off the ship?

sorry should have been more clear...my friend on board ship is and employee/bartendar...and as of 9pm the techs they were flying in to assess the problem and fix had still NOT arrived...then about a 3 hour assessment time to figure out fixing etc depending on the exact problem

I would be afraid to sail with one engine..what happens if your wayyy out to sea and that one goes out? now that would be some SHIP that Happens ! up a big creek with no paddles

Wow, we didn't notice any issues coming back into port today. Other than the "ding-ding machine" (seapass card scanner) was not working and they were manually writing the cabin numbers of each passenger that left the ship. That delayed things a little. Hope they get it fixed soon, can't be fun for the people on board.

Thanks, wrkfire911. . . Yes, I have a friend onboard too, and I am thinking they might just make this Cruise a 7 night Bahamas Cruise (and skip Key West) . . . Of course that is just my speculation. . . I could be way off :o

Enchantment has four engines. We were just on the bridge for a bridge tour two days ago and everything seemed to be working fine.

I believe Independence of the Seas has been running on 2 pods since June 2010. The fixipod was damaged and they just took off the blades.

Does anybody know if Enchantment has direct driving engines or all generators? She is older, so I suspect she will have engines directly turning the props. In that case, this could be a big issue. A ship with electric motors can run fine if one of the generator engines goes down.

I was wondering the same thing. If you know you are going to be in port for most of the night, why not let them off, but then again you have all the bars you need on the ship and even some free entertainment. But at least give them the option if they want to hit some of Baltimore's hot spots.
