Enchantment of the Seas Delayed at Cruise Maryland

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. . .My friend is onboard Enchantment of the Seas, and has phoned me to let me know that the Ship is still docked at Cruise Maryland (at the Port of Baltimore)

Enchantment was scheduled to sail today at 4:00PM for a 9 Night Bahamas/Florida Cruise.

Capt Gus Andersson announced that there is engine trouble, and the ship will remain in Baltimore while the Coast Guard comes on board to diagnose the concern.

The Captain announced that the next report should be a 7:30PM.

I hope all is well with Enchantment of the Seas.

The Captain just announced that Enchantment is waiting for a technical crew to arrive in 2 to 3 hours to assess the problem. There will be no further updates tonight. He will update in morning. That's it for now.

Here is the update. . .Cruise Critic Member, TPKeller just called to tell me that Capt Gus Andersson just announced at 7:30 that there will be an Assessment Team bought on board to determine the scope of the damage.

It appears that one of the engines is down. . . The Assessment Team is on the way and is scheduled to arrive by 9:30PM.

It will take the Assessment Team about 3 hours to determine a decision once onboard.

Capt Gus Andersson suggested that he will not make another announcement this evening, because he doesn't want to wake passengers up from sleep, but will announce tomorrow morning where Enchantmewnt of the Seas is at. . . Or. . .if they happen to still be at the port, hewill give details on the work.

Bet a bunch of folks will be up late wanting to know....guess it would be upwards of 1am before they will know for sure...wonder what happened to the engine.

Radio, thanks for all your updates! We leave on the 27th and I hope and pray they get this fixed! I hope they fix it for the people that are already onboard. You never think something like this will happen! :(

Gosh, my heart goes out to fellow cruises! What a let down!

One thing for certain is that RCI is going to do everything humanly possible to get that engine fixed!

Radio, thanks for the updates!

Does anyone know if there are webcams at the Baltimore Port? I've tried googling but haven't come up with anything solid.

Best,

Sunny

I don't believe there are webcams at that port.

I sure hope this is fixable. We booked this cruise over a year ago. All the planning. :(

Hope the passengers onboard are getting free drinks!!!:D

Thanks Radio..

and no, there aren't any cameras at the port...I think Radio said that there's an inner harbor cam, but i doubt that you can see the pier...it's pretty far away...

Sounds like the Enchantment is having an Adventure. ;-) Hopefully the engine problem can be fixed quickly and they can get on with their cruise. We're supposed to be on it next week, so we'll be watching this thread closely.

Oh I hope all is well with the ship as we sail on March 10th on this same itinerary! Hoping all onboard still have a wonderful cruise!

I am currently sitting on the EOS and all Radio has been saying is true. The Capitan came over the PA to let us know that a team will be here around 9:30 to start the assessment of the ship and they will not have an answer until sometime around 1am. Needless to say tension is starting to run high on this boat. This is my first Royal Caribbean cruise and needless to say it is not starting off on a good note. Hopefully we will be at sea when I wake up tomorrow morning.

Wow... Possible blown motor. How long does that take to replace??? Definately not safe to run without full power. If they get it fixed in a day, what port gets the axe so that they can still make a trip?

Strange they couldn't sail with the one engine not working. We were on Vision of the Seas a few years back(2006) and did a whole cruise with one engine out. Granted we missed one port but hit all the others. We just traveled at a slower speed. I believe if I remember right they fixed the engine on the turn around day the day we got off the ship at the end of the cruise.

Talk about a messed up looking wake...

Wonder what will happen if the ship can't leave before the Pride comes in to dock tomorrow. Safety is most important but the port can only handle one ship at a time.

Kind of like when I was on EX after the prop incident a couple years ago...we skipped SJU, had a full day (like 7-11PM or so) in STT and a really funky looking wake! Of course, all the passengers had to take a turn rowing!:D

In all seriousness, I hope they can get it fixed (or put on the marine equivalent of a band aid) and get out of dodge ASAP!

to those on the ship...fingers crossed...grab a beverage....and hope for the best!

I was just talking to my girlfriend who just got off the Enchantment today and she said they didn't notice any problems. Wonder what happened between then and now?

There are many berths that Enchantment can dock at the Port of Baltimore. . .

I would guess that EN could skip Key West. . . They will probable not skip Port Canaveral (I would think)

Yeah, it' actually a large port... It just only has one active cruise terminal due to limited usage. I imagine that if they can't leave before Pride arrives they'll just move over to another berth either by tug or on their own limited power.

Seriously? Replacing a ship's engine involves cutting large holes in the hull.

Of coures replacing the motor requires a large can-opener... But how long will it take the tech's to dismantle and then repair the issue once they figure out what's wrong???

Not necessarily, let's not jump to conclusions. If it is a Pod, it will be an easier fix, DH was an Engeneer.

I have a co-worker on that ship and of course it's their very first cruise. Hopefully they will get it fixed fast and head out of dodge in the middle of the night and not lose out on any ports. I did text him and told him to go with the flow that being on a cruise ship is better than being at work even if it's sitting at a port dock.

There is definitely enough room. The only problem would be if they had to process passengers from multiple shops through the terminal on the same day. On good weather days like today we like to go watch the cruise ships sail under the Ket bridge and so we did that today, but no ship.

they COULD probably do some repairs at the pier...though they may NOT have parts..and well, you can't just go to Auto Zone and buy them! (or can you:confused::p)

they MAY be able to get to the point that they could go SOMEPLACE and try to fix it in another port...

again, i am only basing this on past experience...i am no where close to a marine engineer.....but when we were on EX they were able to get to St Thomas and cut the damaged prop off...and there have been other times where things were able to be repaired in other ports...enough to get through to the next scheduled dry dock......

We are on EN in about 3 months-ish

I TRIED to live on EX...they found my hiding spot...something about 'uh ms. megr1125 where is your ticket?' Had to call in a LOT of favors to NOT get thrown in the brig! (kidding...)

We were looking at EX but the dates and more importantly money weren't working so well...

I hope they can get it fixed!! sheesh......can't wait for more info..though prob not tonight!

THAT is awesome advice!! Hope your friend understands that SHIP HAPPENS...though I will say this really stinks! And perhaps the group coming to the ship can do something....

But..VERY good of you to throw positive karma to your co worker...hopefully s/he can spread it throughout the ship!

Can't open the casino or duty free shops... Still in US waters...

There had better be some deals at the bar though. Wonder if they are allowing guests off the ship?
