sun prairie cruisers Posted March 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2012 We have never dined in the Steakhouse but are planning to do so on our cruise in June. Is there a gratuity we need to leave or is that figured into the price already?
willyy Posted March 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2012 it's figured into the price, not exactly sure how much goes to server, but we gave an extra 40$ just incase.
mrpayroll Posted March 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 11, 2012 Carnival says the $30.00 pp includes gratuity. That is good enough for me.
golfadj Posted March 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2012 Carnival says 30 bucks includes tip but will not tell us how much of a tip. They do encourage you to give more.
finzup-kt Posted March 11, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2012 It's supposed to be included but when they bring you your check it makes no mention of it and it has a line to fill in the gratuity. I would say if the service you get is just average, maybe don't leave an extra tip but if it was excellent service, maybe add something in extra
marshhawk Posted March 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2012 We gave an extra tip, if only for the free samples from the chef.
golfadj Posted March 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2012 We gave an extra tip, if only for the free samples from the chef. Since everyone get the samples ,not exactly free but built into the price. Just wish they would tell us how much of the 30 is the tip.
Carlyzmom Posted March 11, 2012 #8 Share Posted March 11, 2012 Does anyone know if they still give the free bottle of wine on the first night? And if you don't finish it, can you take it with you?
golfadj Posted March 11, 2012 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2012 Does anyone know if they still give the free bottle of wine on the first night? And if you don't finish it, can you take it with you? Yes and yes. Only two selections are free.
mousey Posted March 11, 2012 #10 Share Posted March 11, 2012 What kind of free samples do they give you? I've never heard of this until today when I read this and another post where OPs asked about it.:p
cruisinJenF Posted March 11, 2012 #11 Share Posted March 11, 2012 I wouldn't call them samples since they aren't on the menu to order. They are really an Amuse Bouche. I have had teeny tiny hamburgers- tomato soup- steak Tartar- and potato soup. Potato soup was my fav of them all. Wish I could order a bowl of it!! They are fun to try and the presentation is always super cute!
cruisinJenF Posted March 11, 2012 #12 Share Posted March 11, 2012 Here is a picture of the steak Tartare- keep in mind that's like a baby spoon next to it. It was the size of a large olive. Really cute and Dh LOVED it. Here is the Potato soup- same thing teeny tiny baby spoon. Wow was it great!!!
mkleblanc Posted March 11, 2012 #13 Share Posted March 11, 2012 Ate in the Steakhouse on 3/8 and it was fabulous. Service was great, food delicious. Go hungry! We were so stuffed we couldn't eat dessert (even though it looked sooo good going by our table). Worth the $30pp and we left an extra tip as well. Our little extra compliments from the chef treat was a mushroom cappucino soup and some sort of shrimp and fruit thing for my DH. Yummy!
Rottweiler Puppy Posted March 11, 2012 #14 Share Posted March 11, 2012 We have never dined in the Steakhouse but are planning to do so on our cruise in June. Is there a gratuity we need to leave or is that figured into the price already? Its already figured in. I left an extra because they tried so hard (service was amateur hour) but next time I wont be leaving extra. Its included. To me it was a $20 steak at best. I would rather they serve better steaks, drop the amateur pretend posh service and not include the tip. I am kind of a steak snob so naturally I am more critical. It wasn't bad, but the included tip should suffice.

bungee Posted March 12, 2012 #17 Share Posted March 12, 2012 What is the dress code for men. Collar shirt with dress pants? Tie? Jacket? Thank you.
FlaGrl4Evr Posted March 12, 2012 #18 Share Posted March 12, 2012 Our Chef's sample on the Legend was an apple infused corn chowder and a horseradish sorbet. VERY different, but good. .
FlaGrl4Evr Posted March 12, 2012 #19 Share Posted March 12, 2012 What is the dress code for men. Collar shirt with dress pants? Tie? Jacket? Thank you. The dress code is different on elegant night so I believe a jacket is required per Carnival. On all other evenings what you mentioned above would be fine. My husband wore dress pants, a long sleeved shirt and tie but we saw men in Docker type pants and a Golf type shirt all the way up to men in suits. :)
BenjiRodney Posted March 12, 2012 #20 Share Posted March 12, 2012 We went on Formal Night on the Glory in 2010, jacket was required.
Missileer Posted March 12, 2012 #21 Share Posted March 12, 2012 Tip is built in but we always leave more because we love the srevice. We try to go once each cruise and we find the steaks, lobster, french onion soup and HUGE shrimp cocktails to be superb!!! Enjoy!

pauleydm Posted March 13, 2012 #23 Share Posted March 13, 2012 We dined in the Steakhouse on the Carnival Freedom. I asked the floor manager, and was told that the gratuity was included in the $30.00 fee, but she was unable to give an exact percentage. I would assume 15 percent, but 15 percent of what is the question. We had amazing service, so we left an extra tip.:)
