Free upgrade secret

I see so many people asking "how to get free upgrades"

This is the Secret: If you spend a LOT of money on gambling in the casinos Celebrity will most likely upgrade you FREE.

Now we all know I'm not talking about a few hundred dollars here, so don't be naive.

The best free upgrade I received, without asking! I booked a Sky Suite S2 and Celebrity upgraded me to a Royal Suite last year on a transatlantic, they also stocked the bar for me as well.

That was so far the best out of 9 cruises with Celebrity.:D:D:D

P.S. I did not win, but only lost about $600 in the casino for the 12 day cruise.

That is the casino club on Celebrity. Royal Caribbean has Club Royale. They are reciprocal.

We are not 'big' gamblers like yourself but are rewarded with chocolates, free drinks, bottles of wine & money towards our next cruise.

People that play more than we do get invited to cruise free on certain sailings.

The casino hosts notice the big gamblers just as they would at a land casino.

Although in some respects the seem to be a franchise, they do have power on the ship.

On our Oasis cruise they put a sticker on our sea pass card so we could get into the shows without reservations. If you have ever been on the Oasis or Allure you know how difficult that is without reservations made before your sailing.

So, what does X or RCI consider a HIGH Roller? You pay one way or another. $600 loss in 12 days is nothing compare to what we have seen others loose in less. That is why we do not gamble on a ship. The Casino is the BIG money maker for a cruise line. JMHO!

$10'000+ on the table , does not mean you have to spent it;)

Curious...would you have spent that $$ if you didn't have the "success" you did....or was it more for show (let them think I might so I get various freebies/possible upgrade)?

I hope it's not the latter....if it is, that's a lot of energy to put on a show. You could spend some of the money and pay for the perks that seem to be so enticing to you.

I would rather get my upgrades the old fashioned way. The last thing I want to do on a cruise, is spend too much time or money in one of their lame casinos. Yuch.

No disrespect to anybody , but Maybe you have to be a gambler to understand what I'm saying.

I am invited to stay in Las Vegas free of charge that includes Air , Food, Suite on top floor with private patio, and , I haven't paid in years.

I enjoy the game, and start out ahead before I get down to the tables.

Been retired now, makes it even more fun, as you get older it's gets harder to find things to do that gets the blood going.

I gave you all a sure fire way to score some real freebies, I understand that not everyone has $10,000 cash to (Show) the table and I can't tell you all the other things I have gotten from the 6 star lines $20,000+ on the table , they may know who I am if they read this.

Anyway you all have a nice cruise.:D

Doesn't work at the slots or else I'd have a free cruise by now in the Royal Suite. They don't give you a card to insert to track your playing so unless you are at the tables they don't know what you have spent.

On behalf of the non gambles, we do respect your opinion and attitude towards those who do not gamble. Thank you for understanding our position. Too bad others don't have the same calm attitude. LOL

Actually, they do, you have to ask. I know you can insert your on board credit card in the slots on Celebrity and it counts the points.

Give it a try next time your on board, good luck.

This confirms to me what I suspected. It's just good business for X to do this sort of thing for high rollers. I expect that in the future, X will do similar things for those that drop large bucks on other things like excursions, bar, restaurants, etc., if they're not doing it already. A business wants to maximize revenue and wants to attract and reward those customers who provide it with that revenue. There's nothing wrong with that.

I've been to Vegas and not gambled and haven't spent a dime in an X casino. But I don't resent what X does for passengers like the OP, they're paying for it.

lais, be sure to get a card!! I usually play the tables but wasn't doing all that well and went to the machines. On day 3 the casino hostess came up and called me by name and introduced herself. I thought that was weird, like how does she know my name; but I guess the track by the machine and know who is playing what?

Anyway she gave me a Blue Chip card and free drink coupons. Whenever I play either the tables or the machines I ALWAYS use my card.

Drinks are comped, you get specialty restaurant comps, and as mentioned previously, toward the beginning of the year you are emailed a list of complimentary cruises. I'm guessing these are cruises that don't sell well but they include Caribbean, Mediterranean and Alaskan. It doesn't include port charges or tips but the cruise (usually in a CC) is "free". Also at the beginning of the cruise, you can check in at the casino cashier and based on the previous cruise, there will be a cash rebate. An additional "perk" is that you don't have to pay the 3% (though I hear it's now 5%) charge on cash advances.

I agree w/ DoCruises about my reasons for gambling. When I lived in Pasadena, I'd be off at least once a month to Vegas for my "free" suite, meals etc. In Texas there are no casinos and I'm not fond of Shreveport or the Oklahoma casinos.

And before anyone says anything, I KNOW it's not "free" hence the "". Yes I pay for it every time I lose a hand of blackjack or a pull of a slot machine. I enjoy gambling. Sometimes I go home a big winner, sometimes I go home more or less even and YES many times I go home a LOSER w/ a capital L but I never gamble more than I can afford to lose.

Oh and I personally DO NOT bring 10K w/ me to gamble FYI.

Agree. I also think they "reward" those who have a lot of future cruises booked with them. They are pretty sharp on generating revenew. If they could only get their web site totally fixed and figure out how to control the flood of people in the Elite category.

Okay, I'll bite...so how does it work? Just walk up and lay 10k on the table for chips, or do you get markers or chips from the cage? How much do you play, $100 per hand? How long do you play at that rate? Do you ask for the upgrades ever, or do they come and offer them each time?

OK so my question is do you use your sea pass card in the slots or do you need to ask for a blue chip card. The reason I ask is my DH loves to play roulette or blackjack and I love to play craps.

You can insert your room key card into the slot machine and they track how much you are spending.

There is a Blue Chip card which you don't ask for. They give you one after tracking your play. But there is a Fortunes Casino card which you ask for at the cashier. They will ask if you play machines, tables or both.

It's not necessarily how much $$ you bring to the table. You could buy 10K of chips and never play a hand and that won't get you rated. Basically at the tables it's a minimum bet of $50/hand for a minimum of 2 hours/day. I honestly don't remember what it is on the machines but obviously the penny and nickel machines aren't going to do it. It's actually explained in print and you can ask for the information from a casino host or pit boss.

If you only lost $600, how do you figure you got free upgrade? If you lost only $600 playing but passed thousands of $ on the tables or slots, you had a good roll there. No matter how you want to twist this, you did not get a free cruise. Most of us do not to want to gamble THOUSANDS, just to get a FREE upgrade. It would be cheaper in the short run to just to purchase it. Don't you think? Craps anyone?:D:rolleyes:

On our last cruise I played almost exclusively on penny machines....but I played the max coin in which was usually 150 or 200 coins so in reality a $1.50 to $2.00 spin. I got all the perks. It is not about how much you play at one time ( I usually play quarter machines) it is about how long you play. We tend to 'visit' the casino every day :O)

Interesting, because information in the Blue Chip envelope I got said to get the "free cruises" you needed to do slots at $5/pull. I think. I remember thinking, I'm not going to get anything for my play on the machines, but actually I don't know if it's due to the machines, the tables or a combo of both. And as it's my favorite form of entertainment onboard, I spend every day there for several hours a day minimum. Sometimes I think they have me mixed up w/ someone else and are going to ask for my Blue Chip card back and cut it into smithereens.
