Cab question...

Taxis are everywhere at the port and Airport...

...but you'd be better off flying in a day early - it's cheap insurance against missing the boat due to some unforseen Airline/Weather problem.

FLL airport has a taxi line outside all baggage claim areas.

Get your bags, follow the signs to taxi stand and get in line. It is always a very brief wait as they line up waiting for passengers to exit the terminals and are ready to go.

Is it true that we will be able to hail a cab outside FLL Airport to get to Total Wine and on to the port?

Just wondering how plentiful they are and what specific ones you may have driven with?

Thanks!:)

Plenty of taxis, but tell him what you want to do and get a price quote..

Taxi's everywhere! Ask what they will charge and watch to make sure all your luggage is put in the taxi and prior to paying once you get to your destination, make sure all your luggage is out of the trunk. Didn't have any issues, just what we do when using taxi's anywhere. These taxi's aren't the yellow taxi's we are used to, they are older cars that run. Sort of reminded me of the taxi's in New Orleans.

We always get a taxi,,,,, not a vehicle that looks like a private car,,,,, a taxi at FLL airport and would not get in a car that was not clearly marked as taxi and has a meter.

There's a gimmick some drivers do at some hotels and they drive what look like private vehicles. When it gets busy they try to have people use them but I always refuse.

What if they have an accident? What is their insurance and liability? Who are these people? Don't get in their cars

IMO

IF you want to have taxi stop at Total Wine, one of you stay in the taxi while the other goes in the store. It's a good idea for one of you to remain with your luggage and valuables and not leave them alone in the taxi with just the driver.

IMO

If you are going to stop at Total Wine, you can order on line in advance and your order will be waiting for you:D That way, your cab will not have a long wait:)

Excellent idea. :)

Thank you ALL!

Was hoping they'd be plentiful!

When we went out of Port Everglades before, we were in Miami and our friends and we got a van transfer, so I am not familiar with using a regular cab.

@Brian...wish we could get away a day early...but it isn't possible.

We have the first flight out of PVD at 6:45 a.m., to land in FLL at 10am.

Hoping it goes well, as usually we can see our way clear for the day early.

Lastly, what actually is considered a reasonable fare from the airport to the ship?

Be aware, most taxi rides in Fort Lauderdale are an adventure. Many drivers come from the Caribbean islands and speak very little English.

They have poor driving skills, may run red lights as they are too busy talking on the phone.

They may even ask you how to get to your destination. If you are lucky, your driver may be a seasoned gray haired American that knows his business.

Yellow Cab seems to be the biggest offender.

Bingo!

Our last cab ride (March 16) was Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. This guy was the most dangerous driver I have ever had the displeasure of riding with. I honestly don't know how people like that can keep a license.

Yes! That was our experience. There were bells beeping and lights on on the dashboard blinking. Having used transportation service in both Newark to NYC and New Orleans, just 'enjoyed' the ride.

There are plenty of cabs at the airport and I know for sure they stop at Total Wine...in January, I was chatting with the manager and he told me that on weekends, the cabs are lined up outside in droves!

You're right (again), Sheila!

In November, and again last week, there were several sitting right outside the door waiting for their passengers.

Also, there were several cabs waiting outside Publix...
