My family of four, 2 adults and 2 Children are cruising on the Carnival Conquest beginning July 17. Can anyone please provide hotel suggestions that make travel to the port easy and have a pool for the kids to swim. Thanks.:)

We're staying at the Hampton Inn and Suites Convention Center pre-cruise and the Drury Inn and Suites, post cruise. There are few hotels that provide free shuttles to the cruise dock (ask on the New Orleans boards). One is Maison St. Charles.

The reason I picked the 2 hotels above was because of their good reviews on tripadvisor.com and their good prices (booked a standard room at the Hampton for $72, including tax; booked a king suite at the Drury for about $90, including tax). Both hotels have a complimentary breakfast buffet, and the Drury has a roof top pool (not sure about the Hampton's pool). The Hampton is close to the cruise terminal and we may try to walk over; if we have to take a taxi, it will still be cheaper than staying at some of the hotels I checked into that included a shuttle, since I'm not paying for breakfast and I was able to get such good rates (I have 2 teen boys---breakfast would not be cheap, even at a diner:) ).

Anyway, check out tripadvisor.com, and the Drury Inn and Hampton Inn websites, as well as the New Orleans board to help you in your decision.

We cruised in Sept on the Conquest. Stayed at the Maison St. Charles pre cruise....very quant, nice cafe for breakfast and nice area. People were very nice. Took us to the pier in a limo. Easy and smooth!

Post cruise we stayed at the Dauphine Orleans in the Quarter: Loved it as well!!! Right in the FQ one block off of Bourbon but still quiet and peacful!

Both of these were around $100. We really wanted to "feel" the hotels and not stay at your typical HoInn or such. Both had pools!

You are gonna LOVE that ship! :)

We stayed at the Embassy Suites on Julia Street. All the rooms have a sitting room (with a sleeper sofa) and a seperate bedroom. We were travelling with another couple, and it worked nicely for us. But I would think it would be ideal for a family of four. There is a nice made-to-order breakfast included along with a cocktail hour. I understand that the hotel has a pool, though we did not avail ourselves. It's close to the port, and we actually walked over from the hotel. Not sure about the price point -- we were able to use HiltonHonors points to book the room.

I stayed at the Marriott 555 Canal St last year. Nice roof top pool (4th floor ??), laundry facilities, GREAT location. You can walk everywhere ... trolly out in front, on the edge of French Quarter, next to Canal Shopping Center and 3 blocks to river front shopping plaza and the river. I highly recommend it. Rooms were extremely clean, duvets on the beds etc. I have no idea of rates (there on a convention).

I paid $69 on Priceline for this Marriott recently. Beautiful hotel, really nice staff.

We booked out room at the Iberville suites! I really wanted Omni Royal Orleans but waitied to long to book a room they had no vacanices for 7/9. I understand that Iberville hotel allows it guests to use the Ritz Carlton facilities (pool, spa, fitness). Does anyone know about this and how is Iberville hotel? Any information would be great. Also where is the best place in New Orleans to get a great breakfast on a sunday???

We are booked to stay at Holiday Inn Select (with 2 cont. breakfasts, free bottle of wine, free parking 7 days and free shuttle to terminal)... I thought this was great for $130. It is across the street from the convention center? Should I look for another hotel if anyone has heard anything bad about this one?

We are staying at the Embassy Suites 5/27 - 5/29 and then sailing on the Conquest...got an internet rate of $129 which is a fair price for the hotel....we always try and stay at Embassey...great breakfast and happy hour...family of 5, 3 boys 18, 16 & 16.

I'll post a review on this web site. http://www.cruisereviews.com/CarnivalCruiseLines/CarnivalConquest.htm

I noted that Ms. Nelson did not like this hotel so I contacted them directly to ensure that they understand our expectations. I never had a bad experience with Embassy Suites.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just looked into that supposed cleaning fee for $100. The fee is for dogs!! The only other fee they have is $10 per day to use the Ritz carlton Spa, pool, and facilities. Which I think is pretty crappy, since they tell you that you can use their facilities, but forget to mention the fee. I was looking for a really nice hotel with a great pool area under $140 bucks in the french quarter and this was the only one that I liked other than the Omni royal orleans which had no open rooms on my check date!! Anyone who has stayed can you please tell me if this hotel is worth the cost. Pros and Cons please??

Thanks for the info and advice. We made a reservation at Embassy Suites. Booked a suite for $139.00 but also am receiving a $50.00 American Express gift check because of their low price guarantee. A website called Bookit.com had a better rate than the Hilton website. We originally tried the Iberville Suite but they only wanted 3 people in a room.

Hilton-Riverside usually has good rates in July. I paid $71 a night a couple of years ago. They used to offer a Cruise Special for $99 that included parking for the duration of your cruise. You had to pay for first night but free after that. This special was only available by calling hotel direct....not on website. Not sure it is still offered but you might check.

Good location, nice hotel, close to pier, Harrah's casino, Riverwalk Mall, trolley, and French Quarter.

Hilton Riverside is one of the closest to port and attached to the Riverwalk is a shopping area w/a great food court. Riverwalk has lots of unique stores like the L'il Cajun Gallery and Creole Kitties. Also near the Aquarium (and Imax) if you have time for that.

Any hotel near the convention center (also on the river) will be near the port.

Recently stayed at the Renaissance hotel (got it for $50 last July on Priceline) and LOVED it. Has rooftop pool.
