wrigley80 Posted April 27, 2012 Author #26 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Day 2 We were in a porthole cabin (R31) on the Riviera Deck. This was our first time in a porthole cabin. We woke up to an unpleasant surprise. One of our porthole windows was broken........ok change that it was shattered. There was glass on the window sill and in my bed. We called guest services and they sent two guys to check it out. They losed the porthole cover. They said to just go on with our day.......that didn't last too long. My dad and I were called to the guest services desk. We got pulled into the security office where we interogated by the Head Security officer and his assistant for well over an hour. We were forced to explain our story 3 times and then write a written account of what happened. this is the "before" photo of our porthole windows And this is the unfortunate "after" photo of our porthole window. The security officers for Carnival accused us of breaking this window. Plus they lied to us and told us that it was "double-paned" window. IT WAS NOT because during our port stop in Key West they replaced the window and re-caulked it. This wasn't a good way to start out our cruise but we weren't going to pay for a window that we didn't break.
wrigley80 Posted April 27, 2012 Author #27 Share Posted April 27, 2012 OK now back to the fun with our vacation. Today was a day at sea so it gave us a chance to walk around and explore the Carnival Fantasy. We had a nice, relaxing day in the Serenity area and be sure to make a stop on the soft, relaxing couches along the promenade deck. This is a perfect place to watch the ocean go by. :) Oh yeah there is my dad testing out how comfortable the couches are. He looks pretty comfortable to me ;) The Resort Style Pool. I really like this set up
wrigley80 Posted April 27, 2012 Author #28 Share Posted April 27, 2012 During out first sea day we went up and played mini golf but it was very, very windy. This was by far the best mini golf course we have come across on any Carnival ship. We really had fun  When we were playing golf we were taking a break on one of the benches and I noticed something jump in the water.......so I ran out to the walkway and saw..............DOLPHINS. They were about 30 of them just off the bow of the ship. That was awesome and I was lucky enough to snap a good picture :)
wrigley80 Posted April 27, 2012 Author #29 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Tonight was our first formal night.......I don't enjoy getting dressedup for dinner but it is also fun to get some good pictures  We clean up pretty good I guess I'm pretty sure we all know what this is . YUMMY Why is it that these hallways always seem like they are a mile long....especially when you have heels on This little pig was on bed when I returned from dinner
wrigley80 Posted April 27, 2012 Author #30 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Day 3 Today was going to be a busy day at our first port of call..............KEY WEST. We docked at the Truman Annex and we were then shuttled into town on a Conch Tour Train. This was super convenient. Our first stop was at Tropical Rentals to pick up our electric car. This is a must when you are in Key West. But you have to go early if you want to get your picture standing next to it. The line was down the street. Here is what we did.......just go up and sit on the wall there and have someone take your pic. MUCH EASIER AND QUICKER Oh yeah there it is......our sweet new ride for Key West. This is the best way to get around (in my opinion). We rented for 6 hours and our total was $105.00 This is Kino Sandals in Key West. Be sure to stop here. I bought 3 pairs of sandals from them. I asked if they had a pair with a buckle on them (I looked at them online before coming to Key West so I knew what I wanted) and they didn't but they made them for me right then and there. That was pretty cool to watch them make my sandals right in front of me. I've got my first drink for the day. I am now ready to start my day. Ya GOTTA love Hog's Breath. This is the Conch Shack. Be sure to stop here!!!! I ordered Conch Fritters and they were delicious

LUVMYGSDOG Posted April 28, 2012 #35 Share Posted April 28, 2012 (edited) Loving your review so much! We did the same cruise back in October and I have been wanting to go back to Key West so badly! We had fritters from the Conch Shack too and they were wonderful! I'm drooling now thinking of them. Okay, the incident with the broken window really makes me nervous. We will be in a porthole on the Paradise in less than 2 weeks (yippeeee!!!). If this happened to us I know DH would not be nice if we were accused breaking the window........ Can't wait for more pictures!!!! Oh yeah, love the pic of your sleeping Dad! My DH gets that same look on his face on our sofa every evening.....:) Edited April 28, 2012 by LUVMYGSDOG
All4fun&fun4all Posted April 28, 2012 #36 Share Posted April 28, 2012 Good catch! The experience that she described sounded a lot more like North Charleston than West Ashley! Yep. The Holiday Inn Express in West Ashley is much better. I grew up in the West Ashley area and it is relatively safe. Much safer than North Charleston. Not too many hookers hanging around. :p This is a wonderful review Wrigley! Love the picture of your dad sleeping in those super comfy chaise loungers. I noticed those on our 2010 cruise and promised NEVER to sit in them. I watched as victim after victim fell unconscious on sea days.:D

My dad has a short fuse at times and especially at times when we are being accused of something we didnt do . You better stay away from those couches if you don't want to fall victim to their comfort ;)

wrigley80 Posted April 28, 2012 Author #39 Share Posted April 28, 2012 Day 3 continued....... The next stop on our tour in Key West was at Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe. Their pie is delicious. ooooooo doesn't that pie look good Anyone who has been to Key West will remember this tree :) I LOVE this sign and it is so fitting because Key West is paradise :p
wrigley80 Posted April 28, 2012 Author #40 Share Posted April 28, 2012 I really like this picture. I wish the beaches in Key West were better but they are so rocky I'm pretty sure I had a successful day of shopping in Key West. I love these pictures of the cloud formations leaving Key West. I was hoping for a good sunset picture but the clouds rolled in and I got some even better pictures of the clouds and the rays of sun poking through :)
wrigley80 Posted April 28, 2012 Author #41 Share Posted April 28, 2012 I think I have kept you all on edge long enough. It is now time for some food porn pictures. The Flat Iron Steak......it was pretty good The tropical fruit plate at dinner The Baked Alaska Breakfast in the dining room. We only eat breakfast in the dining room. It is a much more relaxed setting

The port hole window thing too makes me nervous since that's what I booked also, did they ever tell you what had happened or did you find out? omg the key lime pie looks soooo yum!!! I now wish I decided on a different cruise that had key west as a port stop. :( maybe next time

I now wish I decided on a different cruise that had key west as a port stop. :( maybe next time We never did get an answer as to what happened with the window. It was a scary moment and a very unfortunate one. My dad had went on the Behind the Fun tour and on that tour he spoke with a woman from the Human Resources Department who told us to write a letter to the Captain of the Carnival Fantasy to explain what happened and how we felt afterwards when we were accused. You definitely need to visit Key West. It is probably one of my favorite stops
Cupcrazy Posted April 28, 2012 #44 Share Posted April 28, 2012 Thanks for the great review. I can't believe how much they hassled you about the window in your cabin. What did come of that? I assume you didn't pay for it. They they give you anything for the trouble? Did they at least say sorry?

I assume you didn't pay for it. They they give you anything for the trouble? Did they at least say sorry? Nothing come of it...after I wrote te letter to the captain I thought I would receive an e-mail when we got home but we never did. They never did say they were sorry. I have had 8 cruises with Carnival and this is the first poor experience that we have had. A situation like this could persuade someone to change cruise lines but we enjoy Carnival too much. wrigley80 Posted April 30, 2012 Author #47 Share Posted April 30, 2012 Day 4 We were in Freeport, Bahamas today. We have been to Freeport numerous times so we decided to stay on board and have a nice, relaxing day. One of my favorite things to do onboard is to play trivia.......sports trivia (its great because I beat all the men playing.......hehe), geography trivia, movie trivia. It is fun just to play but winning a "24 karat ship on a stick" is fun too :p After 8 Carnival cruises I finally got my picture with Fun Ship Freddy :) My dad had some luck at trivia too
wrigley80 Posted April 30, 2012 Author #48 Share Posted April 30, 2012 Day 5 Our final stop of our cruise was in Nassau, Bahamas. We didn't have anything planned in Nassau but we got off the ship and walked around for a while. I always love a picture like this because you get a feel for how big these ships really are  We went to this place called "The Daiquiri Shack." I found it on Trip Advisor. The daiquiri's were out of this world. We ordered a Strawberry and a Pina Colada one. The pina coloada had fresh coconut. Another one of these and I would have been crawling back to the ship :p There were 5 ships  docked in Nassau on this day but it didn't seem too crowded
wrigley80 Posted April 30, 2012 Author #49 Share Posted April 30, 2012 One of our favorite stops in the Caribbean is Senor Frogs Anyone who has been to Nassau has seen this lighthouse :) I really like this picture of Atlantis
wrigley80 Posted April 30, 2012 Author #50 Share Posted April 30, 2012 Were back on board and heading towards Charleston :( My dad went on the Behind the Fun Tour and this was just one of the gifts he received on the tour. Chocolate covered starwberries............yum yum I had fun going down the water slides on the right. I felt like I may have been too old for the slides but OH WELL The atrium lobby elevators. I really liked the blue/purple color scheme onboard
