Recommended Posts

What beach in St. Thomas has white sand and a beutiful view to just relax and swim. I saw someone said Mageens Bay does not have white sand? We are both first timers to St. Thomas we are snorekling in St. Martin so would just like a beach that is beautiful and relaxing while in St. Thomas.. . any suggestions?

I would suggest a side trip to Trunk Bay in St. John. Based on what you are looking for, it tops anything in St. Thomas.

Megans Bay is a great beach but the sand is more brown than white. Sapphire might be a little better but IMHO is not a better beach than Megans. Morningstar is rocky. Have never been to Coki.

the only reason why were thinking that is that the day we are in st. martin there are 4 other ships and when we are in st thomas there is only one other... so we thought st. martin would be crowded....think we still should change?

The ferry runs from Red Hook (approx a :15 minute cab ride from the cruise ship pier) hourly. The ride from Red Hook to St. John takes about :15 minutes and the cost is approx $3 - $5 pp. You can get the current schedule on the internet.

You can also take a ships excursion to Trunk Bay but that will be more expensive and structured. You can rent your own snorkel equipment at Trunk Bay.

Islander,

Would these figures be correct for a party of 3?

cab from ship to Red Hook ferry $4 each

ferry to Cruz Bay $3 each

cab from Red Hook to Cruz Bay $4 each.

Your help here is great! Thanks for taking your time to help everyone. :)

Thanks in advance

Bill

Lisaanne- The beaches on St. Martin are white and there are many to chose from. The snorkeling is much better around St. Thomas than around St. Martin. Five ships in St. Martin is not a problem if you get out to the beach early. Try a taxi to most folks favorite, Orient Beach. A real white sand beauty! Be aware that you will probably see some nudity, as there is a nude beach toward one end and they tend to like to walk up and down the entire area. But the beach is spectacular! We happen to prefer Dawn Beach, a $15 (for 2) taxi ride. And no nudes! Both beaches are white sand, with nice views, cafes, loungers and umbrellas for rent. If you do not book a snorkel tour with the ship or an independent operator in St. Thomas, Coki beach offers good snorkeling and should be uncrowded if there are only 2 ships in port.
