SandS204ever Posted August 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2012 The wife and I are trying to decide if we should do carry on only for our flight or check a bag and bring our soda and wine with us from home. We land at LAX at like 9am so have time, is there a store near the CCL port that we could walk to if we get dropped off there? If we dont check bags then we save enough to have a bottle of booze in the room waiting.
Langley Cruisers Posted August 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2012 ... is there a store near the CCL port that we could walk to if we get dropped off there? Hmm, not really - there is a Wal Mart but it's in the opposite direction in a bad area of town. Personally, I would ask the cab driver to stop en route and you can get what you need that way. . SadieN Posted August 28, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2012 If the taxi drops you off at Walmart you can take the free Passport C bus to the Queen Mary. Carnival shares the parking lot with the QM. Walmart is at 151 East 5th Street, Long Beach, CA The Link to the Passport http://www.lbtransit.com/Schedules/Default.aspx?routegrp=37&routes=The Passport&direction=Outbound&day=today&mode=map Click on 'Plan your Trip' Start at Walmart and end at Queen Mary. SandS204ever Posted August 28, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Thanks guys I google earthed the port and yea nothing around. I will have the driver make a pit stop. At this point its more for a couple cases of diet coke for the room. And from what I can tell that has to be carried onto the ship not put into check bag. Langley Cruisers Posted August 28, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2012 ...I will have the driver make a pit stop... That is best, then you don't have to worry about hauling your luggage around with you. Have fun.
deborahjo Posted August 30, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2012 We have used the Passport to WalMart last cruise and will be again in December. We buy a case of water. Warning about buying a case of water. You are charged a $.05 per bottle for some enviromental thing. I was shocked the last time this happened. If you take it back to a recycling center, you will get the $.05 back, but unfortunately there are none near the pier. I go every few months to the recycling center. Usually get a few dollars back. In Oregon we get charge a 5 cent deposit on all beer, pop and water bottles/cans so nothing new there. Refunds go into vacation fund :)
Langley Cruisers Posted August 31, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 31, 2012 Agreed, nothing new here for us either but I guess not everyone knows about it, or has to pay it where they live. *shrug* deborahjo, it is charged to encourage people to return their empties instead of tossing them in the garbage. After a while, those empties really add up. .
SandS204ever Posted August 31, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted August 31, 2012 After a while, those empties really add up.. There is a new center close to where I live, you pay 20cents a bag (they give you special bags), slap your id sticker on it, fill it up and you can drop it off any time day or night (they have a secure drop window for night time). Withen the next 24 hours they will have counted you bottles and put your money into an account. I cashed out my account before Hawaii a few months ago, close to $100 and I had only been using the program for about 5 months. This time its my casino money :D
kenish Posted August 31, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 31, 2012 Here in California the charge on containers is called CRV (California Redemption Value). There are even "reverse vending machines" where you feed your empty containers and they pay out money. Our city has a very good curbside recycling program. Most people don't bother with the CRV but put their empty's in the bin. That created a parade of of old pickups going through neighborhoods and digging through recycling bins on trash day. They often left behind a big mess....some would even dump out the bin on the sidewalk, pick out the CRV items, and drive away. The city passed a law making it illegal to steal trash !
