jamesasmithsr Posted June 20, 2013 #127 Share Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) KJE: Many thanks for the info. This will be our first time on a cruise – Ever. I planned and booked a Rome vacation for the family prior to reading any of these reviews on the Epic room 16001. Guess I made the correct choice! Anyway we are going to be in Rome for 3 days at the Waldorf Cavalieri before the 7 day cruise (Epic rm.16001) and then back in Rome another 3 days after the cruise. Cruise Tours Booked: Florence & Pisa On Your Own Marseille City Highlights & Avignon Magical Majorca & Train To Soller The Best of Barcelona & Gaudi Sorrento & Beach I have read many-many posts about the ship and will be making sure to enjoy everything to the fullest, although one subject I have not found much on. I have is a lot of friends I have talked to that have warned me about the cleverness of pickpockets while on shore. Have you or any others had any encounters with the lower levels of society while in the Mediterranean? Any advice for Newbies is appreciated :o Edited June 20, 2013 by jamesasmithsr
yasbindmd Posted June 22, 2013 #128 Share Posted June 22, 2013 You'll love 16001. Being in the front of the ship us awesome, especially if you have kids. I did a review about the epic and 16001 that you can search for. I think the title was "Epic Review 3/23-3/30" The Cavalieri is an amazing hotel. Just be aware that you aren't in the center of Rome, and have to take their shuttle or cab to get anywhere. If possible, get concierge access. Our reservation came with concierge floor access which has a huge lounge and balcony with tables overlooking the city. We also had access to the pool and spa. It doesn't get much better than relaxing by that pool after a long day of sightseeing. Make sure you check out the hotel's steam room which has a fridgerium right in the middle of it. As for pick pockets just be sure of your surroundings at all times. Use common sense, ie: don't put your bags down and turn your head, don't wave cash around and try not to look/act like a tourist. I would avoid public transportation. Also, you can buy a PAC-safe wallet which connects to your pants and has zippers. Have a great trip!!
tms317 Posted October 16, 2013 #129 Share Posted October 16, 2013 So glad I found this thread!! We're booked in this Suite in a few months and I'm so excited! Your pictures are amazing. Question--we are travelling with some family members that will NOT be staying in the Haven. How easy (or not) will it be for them to access the Haven area to visit, etc. if, say, we're not with them? No right or wrong answer, just curious. Thanks.
Overdue4cruise Posted October 17, 2013 #130 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Thank you for taking the time for the reviews and pics! We are thinking about the 2bedroom villa on Epic for our next cruise after the Dawn (also 2bedroom suites). Your pictures just convinced us! Thank you again
brookie848 Posted October 17, 2013 #131 Share Posted October 17, 2013 I have never been on a cruise before (planned one that had to be cancelled and now have an S4 booked on the Epic in January), so this may be common knowledge -- sorry! If you hae two couples in a suite, do all charges get directed to one credit card or can each couple have charges go to their own card? Thanks so much! ripjerry95 Posted October 17, 2013 #132 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Thanks so much! I love looking at the pics of the Haven. We are planning our first ever Haven experience on the Epic for Nov/Dec 2014. :D

If you hae two couples in a suite, do all charges get directed to one credit card or can each couple have charges go to their own card? Thanks so much! At check-in, each person will provide the card they want their individual charges to go to. Couples can, of course be on the same card, but no worries that your charges will get mixed up with the other couple's charges.

A Libra Posted October 25, 2013 #138 Share Posted October 25, 2013 It has been years since I have had the urge to post on cc. We are scheduled to sail out of Rome on October 8, 2014 booked in The Haven in a two bedroom suite but not in either 16001 or 17001. After looking at all the gorgeous photos and awesome comments on this thread, I am a convert to the front suites. I did not have high hopes of switching suites, but I was pleasantly surprised to find 16001 open. I was amazed at how easy it was to switch suites and not lose our $300 OBC or pay more since the price has gone up a little since we booked. My only disappointment is having to wait almost a whole year before we go. This is our first NCL cruise and I am afraid my husband will have to carry me off this ship kicking and screaming. I have videos of the suite posted on youtube along with the shower ;)
NeilD Posted October 26, 2013 #140 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Warning- there is no going back after experiencing an NCL Suite!!!! You are so right. 3 years ago we got an upsell call to an owners suite on the Dawn. This will be our third time on the Epic in January. First year we had an aft suite. Last year we booked room 17001 and in January 16001. Spoiled!
Overdue4cruise Posted October 26, 2013 #141 Share Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) I wonder if the windows in the master bathroom are one way? Or is it like the men's bathroom on deck 15?;);) In case there is another ship docked next to you when in port.. KJE Atlanta Posted December 1, 2013 Author #144 Share Posted December 1, 2013 So glad I found this thread!! We're booked in this Suite in a few months and I'm so excited! Your pictures are amazing. Can anyone shed light on this? Thanks :) The suite is truly awesome. You're going to love it. As to your question about visitor access: the Haven complex is key card access. When your visitors arrive and you're not with them (assuming you're waiting for them in your suite), you will need to meet them at the entry door and then escort them to your suite (on some occasions, they may be able to follow someone in and then make their way to your suite). Family members and friends who are not staying in Haven category suites are always welcome to visit you inside your suite, but the general rule is that they are not permitted to partake in any of the Haven amenities outside of your suite (i.e., the Haven pool areas, sundeck, hot tubs, Posh (unless they have their own passes), fitness area, lounges, etc.). The reason is to keep it fair (and less crowded) for all the passengers who have booked and paid the premium to be in the Haven. The only exception is that you are allowed to bring a few family members or friends to the Epic Club Restaurant (Haven Restaurant) for a cover charge on a couple of occasions, as space allows. If they need to access to your suite and you're not there and you're not with them, short of giving them a key or perhaps making special arrangements with the concierge, they would not be able to get there. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Have fun!
swan2125 Posted December 8, 2013 #145 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Family and I just returned last night - we stayed in 16001 - it is a very nice cabin and large enough for 3 adults and 3 kids. Leo (our Butler) was great - he went the extra mile the entire time and more, but the room steward (Jennifer) had to be reminded constantly about things to be done. Also had an issue with her waiting until 8:45 pm to turn the room down after numerous requests to do it earlier (because of our kids). From watching the other room stewards around her in the Haven, I don’t think she was at their level. Ryan did meet our expectations, but don't expect anything over the top. The pretzel bread is still awesome and the Blue Man show was great! :D After leaving St. Thomas, headed to Nassau, we had a big scare  – about 10:30 pm (beginning of the white hot party in the H2O) the stabilizer on the ship turned it’s self off and the ship went into a spin as the other stabilizer tried to compensate. It felt like the ship ran into something. I rolled out of bed to glass falling and breaking, my 15 year old DS being tossed across the cabin, and the windows in the solarium and the front door opening and slamming on their own as the ship tilted violently back and forth (and to 45 degrees at one point). We tried to stop the doors and windows but it was so violent that we couldn’t. After about four minutes of this terrorizing event, the ship re-balanced and we saw crew running all over the place. We had some broken glass in the bathroom from the glasses that fell off the sink and my son needed some Motrin as he hit his back on the end table. There were some other haven guests that had to get their bar re-stocked as everything broke in their cabins. The butlers cart in our hall went from one side of the ship to the other tearing the base of the walls and the haven pool emptied all over the haven deck. We also had numerous guests also tell us that tables and guests fell in the casino and around the ship during the event. The next morning, the Captain said it was a computer glitch and apologized. My issue was that no announcement was made when the event occurred and there was no roll call taken. So we had to wait all night to hear from the Captain. I don’t think anyone in the cabin slept well after that for the rest of the trip. I figured we'd be able to bring people to our cabin, but its good to know that visitors must be accompanied in and cannot just Pop On By! I understand the restrictions with the Haven amenities, I just wasn't sure how heavily they were enforced. Good information. Thank you.
Esther1 Posted February 7, 2014 #147 Share Posted February 7, 2014 The Haven Suites are great. We had Cabin 16031 and it was superbly located. Just be aware... they store the two-story window washing ladder/equipment right outside the glass shower with your floor to ceiling window! They only moved it once all week, then right back outside our shower. It's a minor but definite irritation, so while 16031 is still a great cabin, we would not choose it again. cruiseintoheaven Posted July 17, 2018 #150 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Well it looks like I’m reassurecting an older thread but - I’m leaning heavily towards this cabin for a Mediterranean cruise next fall (it’s in my top two at this point). However one of the posts has me wondering....my husband uses an Ecig (vapes) - I’m guessing that would be a no no on the solarium (?)
