We are booked for a Land/Sea trip on Princess next May and Talkeenta is one of our stops for the land portion. What is there to do there?

 

Not too sure where we will stay either. Any suggestions?

Since you're going with Princess, my guess is you'll be staying here: McKinley Princess.

 

I would recommend a Mt McKinley flight in Talkeetna. I flew with K2 and it was an incredible experience.

The Roadhouse has some wonderful breakfast and lunches! There are interesting shops, too. Just a neat little town. It's where you get the train for some of the tours.

McKinley Princess has free shuttle.... walk around town get some lunch then book a flight seeing. We used Talkeetna Air Taxi... fantastic.... they had a special that included a landing at 1/2(landing price) off for booking early. So worth it!

The highlight here is flightseeing McKinley. Be informed about the various flight options- very different choices.

 

Be also aware, that you will be staying at the McKinley Princess, out in the middle of no where and 50 miles away from Talkeetna. Will require and hour bus ride in each direction. There was a fee for this shuttle. IF you are on the Alaska RR, then plan out any Talkeenta activities around that timeframe. You don't want to be adding more two hour commutes than you have to.

 

IF your cruisetours has 2 nights at the McKinley Princess and only one night at the Denali Princess, you may want to rethink your choice. It is FAR superior to have at least 2 nights at Denali.

Our tour has only one day here and 2 at Denali. Thanks for the info. Looks like we will have to make some decisions for our tours at this site.

DH and I will be there in July and want to do a flight seeing excursion in Talkeetna but wondered how early the shuttles leave from the Princess McKinley lodge. We would like to book the excursion early in the day, but need to allow for travel time between the lodge and Talkeetna. Does anyone know how early the shuttles run?

The first shuttle leaves the lodge for Talkeetna at 7:00 AM. The last one back to the lodge leaves Talkeetna at 8:30 PM.

 

We were able to do two tours back to back on our full day at McKinley Princess Lodge, the Devil's Canyon Jetboat Adventure at 9:30 AM and a glacier flight with Talkeetna Air Taxi at 4:00 PM. That was a fantastic, yet tiring day.
