luvcruzing Posted October 16, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2012 I've only traveled with a 21" pilot-type pull-along carryon on my last few cruises, but this time I'm thinking of taking the next size up - a 24" suitcase. Instead of handing it over to a baggage handler at the port, I would like to bring it onboard with me. It is 16" wide. Does anyone know if it will fit through the scanner it has to go through before boarding? Thank you.

rvsullivan Posted October 16, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2012 If it fits through the scanner/x-ray at the airport, it will fit through the cruise lines scanner.

kirsty_r Posted October 16, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2012 The airlines give maximum dimensions for carry on luggage, if it fits into that, it will also fit into the scanner. :)
kirsty_r Posted October 16, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2012 British Airways quote: (22in x 18in x 10in) which includes things like pockets and wheels in the measuring. :)
luvcruzing Posted October 16, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted October 16, 2012 I did Google the TSA website for dimensions, but did not find a definitive answer. I will be checking this bag on my flight, so it won't be goingon as a carryon and into the scanner at the airport at checkin. Just wondering if it will fit at the port. TSA won't have an answer because the airlines are the ones who post the size restrictions. If it was over 50 inches I'd start to worry. :D
luvcruzing Posted October 17, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted October 17, 2012 Found another thread on this issue. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1554637 Guess I'll take my chances. Some of the airlines have a carryon size limit of 24x16 (Alaska Airlines: 24x17), so I think my 24x16" bag should easily fit into the scanner at the port.
