Calling back home from caribbean...

I'm a Verizon customer not excited about spending $1.99 per minute to call back home to my daughter from each of the 5 ports we are visiting. What are the other options that I have?

Check your options on your Verizon account or call your local store. AT&T works in STT for us (no roaming), Verizon did not. But check with Verizon for each destination or check on their int'l calling plan cost.

We have Verizon. When we called to check, they said there was no additional charges for calling from St. Thomas. San Juan either, unless we went to an area where we were in roaming.

When I was on the Destiny in May and the Liberty in November, it was $1.99 on the ship. I just called from the ship early morning or later in the evening. It was alot easier to just call when you were either getting ready for dinner or sitting in the room relaxing.

Verizon stated that there was no charge since it is US territory same for San Juan. I'm calling again just to be sure and talk to a different supervisor... Better to be safe than financially sorry....

Verizon worked for texting only, from Bahamas. I called my son & husband home once daily from ship room phone, 5 day cruise, once daily for a few minutes, was about $30. I didnt consider that bad.

Yes do call to confirm. AT&T works in US territories (no roaming) and in some parts of the BVI, and last I knew that was not the case for Verizon. But this changes constantly.

Verizon does charge in St. Thomas but not in San Juan. This was the case last January and I called again today since we are cruising soon and nothing has changed.

That doesn't make sense but ok, you will know when you're there. But enjoy your cruise and stay off the phone as much as you can! :rolleyes:

We have T Mobile and could call home in St. Thomas without additional charges. We had our phones on airplane mode and when we turned them on to regular mode (whatever!) we could call home and no charges showed up.
