Joel&Hall Posted January 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2013 Hi, We are going on a Baltics cruise in May on Celebrity Eclipse & I was looking at the night excursion Celebrity is offering into Tivoli Gardens, It leaves the ship at 5pm but says you will find out when you will be coming back while on the ship. I was wondering if anyone knows what time it is likely to come back as we will be with our young daughter and don't want to be out to late. Thanks for your help! reilly1 Posted January 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2013 Have done Baltic cruise on Eclipse and you will have a wonderful time - one of our favourites out of 15 cruises! Why not go to Tivoli during the day? At night, although the lights are nice, it is more a venue for restaurants. There is a hop-on/hop-off bus that stops right at the cruise terminal and one of the stops is, of course, Tivoli. Just a suggestion and much cheaper than the ship tour. Adammara Posted January 23, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2013 We have been to Tivoli a couple of times, and were somewhat disappointed. Really its an amusement park with restaurants. The first time we went was on a ships excursion when we were on our own. The second time, about 3 years ago, we were with friends. We walked into Copenhagen, viewing the various sites along the way, then as our friends wanted to see it, went to the Gardens, and were still not impressed. My wife was taken ill as we left, so we got a taxi back to the ship, and from memory it was around £15 to take us back to the ship. I would seriously consider doing your own thing, get as bus or taxi into town, and pick up a taxi when you leave the Tivoli. Tivoli was not our 'cup of tea' but I am sure our grandchildren would have loved it. Richard
mljatsea Posted January 23, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2013 We went to Tivoli on our own at night prior to embarkation for Baltic cruise. I thought it was lovely with the lights and the fireworks were amazing--up close and personal with ashes falling around us. That was 15 years ago so things may be different now. In late May Copenhagen sunset will be past 9:30 so might be something to consider. Helpful website: www.sunrisesunset.com.
Joel&Hall Posted January 24, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted January 24, 2013 Thank you everyone, we thought we would go at night as we wanted to spend the day exploring the city & then later in the afternoon thought we would head back to the ship to freshen up & put our daughter down for a nap if she is tired before heading to Tivoli for dinner & explore the gardens/theme park. Seeing as how it isn't that expensive to catch a taxi we may decide to do that instead then we can come & go as we please :)
Rare brazilgirl Posted January 24, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2013 We took our children in the evening while on the Constellation. We had a wonderful time. Tivoli is a delightful amusement park with loads of charm. Highly recommend getting a taxi , it is not far from the port.
Bobocasey Posted January 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2013 We went to the Tivoli last year. What you need to know is they charge you to get in and then charge you for the rides. The rides are not included in the ticket. We were disappointed in it. Not a lot of rides if you have been to Disney World or Six Flag no in comparison. Yes the lights are neat but you will miss the fireworks if your ship leaves port around 10:00.
Rare TLCOhio Posted January 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 24, 2013 We have been to Tivoli twice and loved it each time. Below are some of my photo "evidence" to prove and show why and how. It's not for everyone, but we loved the mix of history, people, charm, music, gardens, water features, etc., etc. We didn't do the rides. Too old to do that, plus been there and done that earlier at other parks in the U.S. Night time is very special. Walking around and soaking it up is so interesting and much fun. Exciting!! Depends on your personal interests and tastes. The location is handy and the size of this park makes things easy to sample in a reasonable period of time. THANKS! Enjoy! Walt Disney was inspired in 1950 to construct Disneyland after visiting this park in the heart of Copenhagen. Tivoli opened in 1843 and encompasses eight hectares with 1,000 trees and 400,000 summer flowers planted throughout the gardens. It boasts upwards of 40 restaurants, a Chinese-style pantomime theater, open-air concert stage, amusement park and Denmark’s longest salt-water aquarium. In the evening, the park is lighted up with Chinese lanterns, multi-colored lights, etc. That truly makes it a “Magic Kingdom” to make Disney happy. Website at: tivoligardens.com.: Copenhagen’s famed Tivoli has a wide variety of entertainment happening each day and evening. Here, we enjoyed this super energized “BIG BAND” performance, including the Duke’s famed “Night Train” sounds. Very unique and special place that is so handy. If possible, visit there in the evening when the lighting makes things so much more magical!!: Here is one of Tivoli’s most unique buildings “showing off” with its covering of spectacular lighting. Thomas Edison would be proud!
