Homer714 Posted January 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2013 Please don't flame me :D After looking at many reviews and a lot of pictures it seems like some of the ships are dark / dreary/ in the common areas.... almost like old and dark looking.... Is it just some bad interior pics? This being my first cruise I don't know what to expect, a little nervous and a little anxious about it all to be honest. Either way I am looking forward to my first time. :)
cruisinJenF Posted January 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2013 I don't find them to be dark and dreary but I guess it depends on what part of the ship you're looking at. The main showroom and a lot of lounges don't have windows. The dining rooms all have windows but if the pics were taken at night it would look darker. I don't think ou have anything to worry about- I think you will love it and become addicted like the rest of us!!! Have a great time and don't worry. Homer714 Posted January 26, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted January 26, 2013 Maybe lack of windows in pics is part of the "darkness" im seeing.......
cruisinJenF Posted January 26, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2013 Well- in the case of the main showroom it will be dark when you're watching the shows so you won't notice :)

Is it just some bad interior pics? Probably mostly bad photos. There are interior areas, without windows, that are fairly dark, but those are mostly used at night. ISurfTooMuch Posted January 26, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2013 Many photos don't really do the ships justice. Once you're onboard, I don't think you'll find the interiors dreary at all.

cruisinJenF Posted January 26, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 26, 2013 To create a countdown clock click on "Countdown Clocks" at the top of the page in the beige bar of tabs. Create your countdown clock and copy the code it gives you. Go to "User CP" at the top in that same bar of tabs and click to "Edit Signature". Paste that code in. You can "Preview Signature" to be sure it worked. Good luck!

Is it just some bad interior pics? This being my first cruise I don't know what to expect, a little nervous and a little anxious about it all to be honest. Were you, by any chance, looking at a Spirit class ship? Spirit class ships get praised constantly for their really nice layout, and it's true. But one thing that almost no one mentions is that those ships' theming, is well..., dark and otherworldly. Legend, for example, has handrail balusters shaped like urns. (Well, maybe they're supposed to be ancient vases or genie lamps, but the resemblance is there.) With names likes Legend, Miracle, etc., you almost have to make the theming dark to make it match the name, but the decor can look dreary in pictures at times. (Just for clarification, "dark" refers to the nature of the theme, not lack of sunlight.) Having said that, remember that Freedom is a Conquest class ship, and its theme is American history. So you should be fine in that department.
ready2cruzagain Posted January 26, 2013 #15 Share Posted January 26, 2013 dont know why its not working :( It is working. I can honestly say I have never considered a ship to be dark and dreary. Most are so full of color that it is scary.

While the Spirit had a nice lay-out and was easy to get around I found it kind of dark and it looks like the Pride followed the same theme just based on the pictures I've seen. summersigh Posted January 26, 2013 #19 Share Posted January 26, 2013 Many photos don't really do the ships justice. Once you're onboard, I don't think you'll find the interiors dreary at all. We call it "atmosphere" ... and find the lighting on all the ships we've sailed appropriate for each area's purpose :)
25years2gether Posted January 26, 2013 #20 Share Posted January 26, 2013 I don't recall any dark, dreary areas on the Freedom or the Victory but on the Dream a few weeks ago I kept on saying how dark (and cold) the Ocean Plaza on Deck 5 was. There were windows on either side, but very dark. It could have used much better lighting during the day.
