Dallas Texan Posted June 17, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2005 I just returned from 5 days on the Ecstacy, and did not enjoy it. The boat is in poor shape, and there were very few fun activities planned. (There were weight loss and Tanzanite seminars). Has anyone else experienced this? This was my first cruise, and I was not impressed.
moonvine Posted June 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2005 I went on the Ecstasy in January 2005 and had a GREAT time. Yes, the ship is not brand new - if you want a brand new ship you will not be able to sail out of Galveston. There were so many things to do that I did not have time to do them all (and I don't remember any weight loss seminars at all, though there could have been one. It wouldn't have been something I would have been interested in, so I would have skipped it). There are several pools, hot tubs, water slide, food almost all the time, ice carving demos, art auctions, shows, comics, piano bars, dancing, library, game room (where we actually spent a lot of time as we had it reserved for our group), gym, sports activities, video arcade, casino, bingo, hairy chest competition, newlywed competition, horse racing, and I am sure there is a lot of other stuff I am missing. I was not on the ship at all when we were in port so I had very little time to enjoy any of the other stuff. My group decided that 5 days was not long enough so we are planning a 7 day cruise on the Elation next January. What were you expecting?

I have never been on this particular ship but CCL does offer many activities on all their ships.
tef43 Posted June 17, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2005 Unmet expectations. It begs the question, what was it that they didn't have that you wanted? Did you bother to read the Capers? I've never experienced a lack of activity options, on any CCL ship.
corina27 Posted June 17, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2005 The Ecstasy is an older ship and yes they do try to sell you things on your cruise. Were your expectations too high?Did you do any research about this ship before your cruise? What did you do in Cozumel and Play de Carmen? Dallas Texan Posted June 17, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted June 17, 2005 As this was my first cruise, I was not sure what to expect. I was upset that I didn't enjoy the activities they were offering. I will clarify and say that there is always a scheduled activity, though they were not things that interest me. I don't go to the carribean to purchase art or jewelry. The evenings were fun (the comics and shows) it was the daytime that was lacking. I guess I was expecting a larger pool area, or a different atmosphere. Unfortunately, these things are simply personal choice. I think if I had seen the Carnival Capers before we booked, I may have choosen a different cruise line. I think the ship would have been much more fun with children. But on a much sweeter note, the cruise will be a monumentous memory for me as I got engaged on formal night. The photographers were awesome and captured the moment for us!
LHP Posted June 17, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2005 congrats on the engagement. Sorry you did not enjoy the cruise, but Carnival (and cruising in general) isn't for everyone. I would suggest you get to know a travel agent, so that they will know your preferences and can recommend a better fit next time. We have been to The Cloister (Sea Island Ga) several times and did not care for it. Yes, it is a 5 star resort, but just not my cup of tea. But there are families who literally spend generations there and truly love it. So, to each his own.

DreadPirateRobert Posted June 17, 2005 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2005 Howdy Emily, Sorry to hear you didn't have a good time but congrats on the engagement. Being a first cruise it is hard to know what to expect. I've never experienced your disappointment because just laying around on deck getting sun, reading and having a drink or 5 is exactly what I wanted to be doing. I've not been on the Ecsasty but I'm surprised to hear she is in such bad shape. Cruise ships do take a beating. I hope you find a vacation style that gives you what you are looking for. I'm a little bit curious as to why you came here only after a disappointing cruise - when you could have come here prior to your cruise and found out lots of info - even a copy of the Capers you could have looked at.
