Carnival's new "trick" to reduce chair-saving

You know, it's not even a matter of learning through cruising what is acceptable. Even in everyday life...you don't walk into a bar and place personal belongings on all the stools for your friends.

People have no couth...their mindset is "I am on vacation, and I paid to be catered to"

Ugh.

If it's that important to them...they should have to drag the darn chair along with them....LOL Now, isn't that a mental picture worth a couple of smiles? :)

Now really! I laughing very hard....would love to see this coming thru security! I've seen people 'saving chairs' as soon as they are put out by the crew (around sunrise). Ridiculous!

Just 2 more months........then I'm going to save me a chair. Just kidding......

I could picture people bringing chairs from home....LOL NO metal allowed at the airport...so everyone dragging those resin plastic NON FOLDABLE ones on the plane. :D

Hey....what part of W-S? I used to live off Country Club, up near Peace Haven.

I had a lovely experience on my Conquest cruise last year- 3 of us went to one of the upper decks where we noticed a block of empty chairs so we decided to grab them---there was another group there, but there was a considerable amount of space between them and the empty chairs. We sat down and 5-10 minutes later some stupid girl came up to us and was like you are in our friends chairs, to which I explained I don't see any friends and there is no saving chairs so I guess those friends are out of luck. She was not happy and continued to mutter stuff to her other friends- nevermind that there was a stack of deckchairs across the way and in the amount of space between our chairs and theirs you could fit about 4 in there...the nerve!

How about a parking meter system with a 30 min max. . The CH would have the inconvenience of running up to deposit coins or their butts up there if they want to actually use them.
I know another way for CCL to get your money, but hey this is one that would benefit all = ))
Re-reading this thread has given me an idea about how to get some souveniers from our trip. I'm going to head to the pool deck at about 8:30 and pick up some Carnival towels for all my friends and relatives. :D
Actually, you really don't see too many Carnival towels on reserved chairs (they're 50 bucks if you don't return them), but you will see paperback books, their own towels from home, sandals, tote bags, magazines .... etc.

I don't know, we never had a problem getting lounge chairs after breakfast, but we don't need to be right at the edge of the pool either.

On RCL people were hogging chairs.. so we pulled those chairs out of the way and back under the shade. Then pulled ours up to where those were..

The hogs were PO'd when they got there about a hour later.. and here we sat fat and happy.. We told them we didn't move their stuff.. just walked up and sat down.. It was fun to watch them hunt for their crap..

It really sucks when two really big rednecks have waay too much time on their hands and just a little acohol in their systems

On the flip side, for someone like me that gets up hours before my wife and wants to sit out on deck and read while she sleeps in, what are we supposed to do when we want to get up and use the restroom or want to get a cup of joe, etc? If we don't leave something on the chair, the "hawks" swoop in and take it as soon as your keester lifts off of it. Since my wife isn't there, she can't nicely say.."oh my husband is sitting there he's just gone to the restroom" But, if I leave something there, I am labeled as a "hog"!
Quite a conundrum! On par with why do they put round pizza in a square box? So, next cruise I figure I will assemble a full battle staff that will deploy into a defensive fighting position around my selected sunning bivouac, ready to repel the hoards of hawks and hogs that are waiting to descend upon my spot! :D

I am with Cobra - Dh and I cannot even go grab something off Lido deck buffet together for fear someone will take our stuff - so we take turns - one goes gets their lunch brings it back to the chair then the other goes -
pretty sad that now that we can travel without the kids we still have to eat in shifts so we don't lose a $22 towel - :( -

I went on Sensation in May of 2003. I don't really remember there being many chair hogs and there always seemed to be plenty of open chairs around the main pool deck. I guess the chair hogs don't take the 5 day cruises. I'll have to see if they show up on my Sensation cruise coming up May 13...

I'll be taking my own beach towels, but the problem with that is that if someone does decide to take my towel, how do I reclaim it? Beach towels aren't exactly cheap. That's why Carnival has to charge $22 if you lose yours...

I would imagine that Carnival gets their towels pretty cheap when you consider the huge volume they use throughout the fleet. It's just yet another revenue enhancer they throw at you to "absorb" your $$$. Personally I've never had an issue finding a deck chair, but if I wanted to save a few for my friends I'd probably lay on a whole stack, at least that way I am saving them vertically, not horizontally.

[I][B]Let's solve this chair hogging thing. How 'bout Carnival gives out some blow up chairs. Everyday you just go to this big bin, reach in and get a plastic chair, go to a pumping station and get it blown up and you have it for as long as you like.

But if you get off of it for more than 15 minutes, it deflates and you have to bring it back to the pumping station. Of course someone else might take your place.

Ridiculous huh! I know but I haven't had my coffee yet and I'm looking for my blow up lounge chair on my patio. Seems the dog took it off somewhere. Oh well!
The trick to getting a chair is to go to the abandoned funnel deck.
The wife and I spent all week there. There was no more than 16 people up there at one time at the most. Plenty of chairs, plenty of room and plenty of peace and quiet.
Isn't that where the smoke comes out of the huge pipes? I have tried that before and it often smells like exhaust.
The folks come to the pool several hours later and they are MAD!! YOU HAVE MY CHAIR!!!
If they are not showing up for an extended period of time. I would be more then happy to point out to them that I have been there for hours and they are just getting there to use the chair they weren't supposed to hog (as I continued my time in the chair).
No Chair Hogs on the Fantasy? I guess not! That is a 3/4 day cruise and is full of first timers. They don't know to do it! It takes them 2 or 3 days just to figure out the front and back of the ship let alone that they have to save a chair to get one. It's the seasoned cruiser that saves the chair at 6AM.
They send out a scout each day to save a group of 4 or more so the others can sleep in and still know they have a front row chair. Pros bring their own towels from home and don't take the gamble on the $22 charge.
I just got off the Conquest and I was pleasently surprised that there were always many chairs available on deck; no need for fighting or hogging. That's because I thought the deck was full everyday, with three hundred or so people, but chairs were always available! Must have been lucky; no illness or out of control kids/adults, either!:)

I just threaten to hang them over the edge of the ship's railing and they seem to go away.....Same as unruly college kids.

Just kidding. Can't stay in the sun too long anyway being white and from the north, so if people are patient chairs should be plentiful.

Maybe giving up your room key to a chair steward would work? Or maybe two people per chair? Guess it depends who the two people are...
