HoganUK Posted June 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2013 I booked my Sunshine Cruise back in January and chose an inside cabin based on being the lowest price. Since then we have recently decided to try and upgrade to a Balcony Cabin, which hundreds still seem to be available on the 30th August sailing. Even though we are wanting to upgrade to a cost £350 more than what we paid for the inside, Carnival are advising that we will lose our $750 OBC that was on offer when we booked. To me....it just doesnt make any sense, why would you penalise someone for actually wanting to spend more money?

Because that was apparently the special when you booked....and when you upgrade, it's actually a cancellation and a rebook. So if the OBC is not offered now....you lose it with the cancellation. lovebelle Posted June 20, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2013 When you make changes to a booking they use current promotion codes. Any previous offers will basically be lost unless the current promo is offering something (such as OBC). This is why you sometimes hear a person who booked under a 50% off deposit promo makes a change to their booking only to find they now have to pay 100% of the deposit. New promo, new rules. Unfortunately in your case, in order to upgrade you will be losing a large credit since no current offers, have anything similar.

richfret Posted June 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 20, 2013 It's in the fine print so you can't blame Carnival for that. I feel your pain however and you probably don't want to hear some one telling you the legalize. I just went through a similar experience although I did much better than you did. I bought a cruise while on a cruise and got a $100 OBC. Yesterday, the Military price took a dramatic drop and I called my TA and explained the situation. The TA called Carnival and rebooked for the new price. I lost the $100 OBC and got a $50 replacement. The good news is that the price was $340 less for a net savings of $290. So it can work both ways.

sr30sb Posted June 20, 2013 #11 Share Posted June 20, 2013 That's a terrible business practice. I realize when you booked that was the special but since you are willing to spend more to be upgraded, they should accommodate you.
