I have learned so many tips from these boards. I've met many friends. I've "seen" ships and ports through cruisers words. I can't quantify what I like best about them. It depends on what I need and what I'm looking for.

I posted early in this thread but would like to say to whoever at Cruise Critic started the poll?

There are many of us who want to check "ALL":D......but I guess that

would have to be in the "OTHER" category instead;)

What do you find MOST useful about the Cruise Critic forums?

Little or nothing.

Much of what is posted is incomplete, rumors, or just wrong. No fact checking is ever done.

Aggressive moderation of content is needed.

Anything you read in the forums you better fact check it first.

As a "newbie" (our first cruise is in 61 days!!), I have found these boards invaluable to get advice on packing, onboard etiquette, what to do at our ports of call, and so much more. The best thing I've learned is about watching for price drops! We saved $180 on our balance and have since earned $60 in OBC. I never would have known about the guaranteed lowest price if I didn't read here!

We have found so many things to do at our ports that aren't organized excursions and that don't cost a dime. Before that, I thought we would either pay for excursions or just hang out on the beach and at the "touristy" Margaritaville, etc. we have a whole walking tour (made up of about 3-4 different suggestions) that I put together to see a bunch of places that interest us in Nassau.

I've got an extensive packing list made up (since I'm a little OCD when it comes to planning), and I've found several things I thought we would need to take and many more things that I never would have thought to take such as a highlighter, outlet strip, etc that will likely make things just a bit easier LOL

There's valuable insight and information in all areas that even the most experienced cruiser can draw from -- as cruise lines update their policies or onboard perks, etc., recent travelers sharing that information goes a long way with those seeking cruises or already booked.

I picked other......I have been on this site for 10 years now and of course

never too old to learn.:) Getting information is always a good thing.

But I also enjoy seeing some of my friends (who I am now friends with

in real life:D) and we chat on a couple of "fun threads"......so it is

more than just one thing and since you can't choose multiple reasons

I had to choose other.:)

My sentiments exactly!:)

I could have checked more than one if it was available.

I really should have checked Other.;)

"Something else" more specifically, excursions are what I usually look to cruise critic for because I can get a lot of true information and true recommendations. I've learned that some ports are good for ship sponsored excursions and some are better done individually for a number of reasons. I would never book an excursion without knowing cruise critic members' opinions.

Thank you for asking :)

The question asked for a single answer, but getting to know people on the cruise before we leave for our trip is also high on the list of reasons we've belonged to CC for years.

I agree. Getting to know people is the golden nugget, the gem in the boards. We have friends that have become close friends that we met on these boards.

We haven't cruised in awhile and when we did have one booked I would come here for all information.

The way CC has gone downhill in the past years, I quit referring friends and family to this site. Some will ask an honest question and BAM an argument will start with telling the OP it is a dumb question. I was always taught now question is dumb and to answer the best you can.

I don't. My reply was is response to a Facebook post requesting comment to this poll.

I do read the Carnival board from time to time. Seems to be mostly a few high volume posters bashing Carnival over and over again.

I do use the rest of the CC site, just not the boards.

You are correct.

At one time the boards were a pretty good source of cruising knowledge.

Now its just mostly negative opinions and flaming everyone and everything.

Look, how many times can you tell the world that you hate ____________ cruise line.

{Slowly raises hand :o} I'll be honest, my first thought in posting the poll was to see what people find to be the #1, top of the top, feature of the boards. So pleasantly surprised, though, to see so many replies saying "all of the above." Noted for next time! (and thanks for the feedback!)

Hi,:) I try to be respectful of others opinions...because we all have

different ones.......but I will respectfully disagree. I try to be

helpful to folks and I realize we all are different people and that is

what makes the world go around. If we were all the same? Life would

be very boring:eek:

I don't say I hate other lines...I just post about the line I prefer and

am happy with my choices:)

I think the same folks who endlessly go to the Carnival board for the sole purpose of bashing Carnival for the same things over and over and over are a long way from what your saying.

If I do not like a cruise line and don't cruise with that cruise line why post to their board at all?

What am I missing?

Hi,:) there are "trolls" all over message boards.

You are not missing anything.....there are some folks who are just

nuts.....just like in reality.....a message board is teeney % of reality.

I don't post on forums that I don't sail on....I think most folks post

on the board they sail on......but you will always find folks who like

to cause trouble:eek:...that is why the hosts always say to use that

little triangle to alert them about issues.

John Heald writes about one poster in his hilarious blog. Whether or not you like Carnival his blog is hysterical.
