We had a wonderful port day in Curacao with the same hours as your upcoming cruise. We (myself, DH and kids ages 10 & 12) took a taxi to Porto Marie and stayed there until sunset. We went back to the ship for dinner, and then headed out for a BEAUTIFUL nighttime stroll.

You can read all about the details in my picture review, starting on page 3 post #47.

A few photos of Willemstad at night and the pontoon bridge:

We will be in Curacao in a couple of weeks. We will be there from 8-5 and thought about renting a vehicle. Where would you recommend renting from and is your island easy to navigate? We were there last August and did the Irie tour (that was fun) and wanted to see about the possibility of getting over to the West side. Any recommendations?

I answered your car rental question on the other thread:).

With your port times it's very easy to rent a car and go to the Western side. Make sure to visit Shete Boka national park, Knip beach and Porto Marie or Cas Abao. You will receive a map with attractions when you rent the car.

Please, do NOT go to any isolated beaches. There are many beaches with other visitors and amenities you can visit. The isolated beaches, while not 100% dangerous - if you get a flat tire or anything similar, you might not make it back in time for ship's departure.

Thank you so much Isa65

Dumb question - Is Cabana Beach the same as Seaquarium beach?

We want to do a beach and then maybe dinner/drinks watching the sunset. Would be great if the beach had activites such as jetskis, kayaks, etc. Trying to decide between Blue Bay beach and cabana beach.

There are no dumb questions.

Seaquarium beach is at the further end of the stretch and Cabana Beach is at the beginning. It is one looooong stretch of beach with shops, restaurants and you will find watersports activities there as well.

Dinner at Mambo is excellent and very romantic at sunset.

Enjoy your day in Curacao!

We will be in curacao on thur dec 18th from 8am to 7pm we need a beach with loungers umbrellas food and drinks any suggestions??? How much is a taxi to the beach??? Thanking you in advance for any info!!!

WOW, that is a LONG port day!

Cabana Beach has what you want - cabs are $20 per ride one way.

If you want the prettier beaches, these are further away. Cas Abao Beach or Porto Marie Beach (about 30 - 40 minutes from the ship), cabs are $40 per ride. You can try to find others to share the cab with you and share the cost.

You can rent a car and visit several beaches and the Shete Boka Natural park with the blow holes.

It's easy to navigate and you will have flexibility.

Do visit only beaches where there are other guests and/or amenities and stay clear of secluded beaches.

:D:D:D

Maxims is very East on the island. But a taxi ride to that area will take you through parts that not many tourists see. You are going in the opposite direction of morning traffic, so shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes to get there.

We really want to get a rental car and see the island. We are there from 2pm-10pm. Lagun beach and Shete Boca are the must see! What else Isa65 can you recommend?

Do the rental car company's at the port stay open until 10pm to return that late?

Are the floating shops still open if we allow time say 9pm-10pm?

Also a dinner recommendation to watch the sunset?

Any thoughts on a sunset cruise and whether or not it's worth the $??

We are honeymooners this time and like to beach it up and maybe grab a drink and see a sight en route to or from the beach but that's about all. We don't usually do excursions but am a little interested in this one

We are going to be there from 1pm-11pm. We plan on renting a car to save on taxi fares. I am worried after reading previous posts that we will not have much to do after sunset. Is shopping all there is after dark?

Just used to ports where we leave around 4-5pm. :/
