Wine check at Port Everglades/Ft. L

If we each carry on two bottles of wine at Port Everglades (Ft.L) what is the procedure Princess uses to charge us the fee..if they are in the mood to do that? ;) Is this done in the terminal while scanning our carry ons? Or once we board the ship? And do they mark the bottles and charge our room account right there or exactly what? We have never been stopped while carrying on two each on our two other Princess cruises. Just curious.

As you go through security and the x-ray machine, you will be asked to declare your wine and take it to a table where you will show your bottles. They will record your cabin number and note that you are bringing on board one bottle for free and one for a fee. Your on board account will be charged $15. One of your two bottles (your choice) will be stamped on the label and you will be able to bring that bottle wherever you want without further fee. The bottle without the stamp can be consumed in your cabin for free, but if brought to a public area or dining room, your on board account will be charged $15. The same process will apply for passenger #2.

I know we can carry on as much as we want. We were planning on 4 bottles. Just wanted to know if they DO check that day, what the Princess procedure is in marking/charging those extras. This past Jan. and in June, nothing was said when we brought on our usual four bottles for room consumption. But I know it can vary from homeports and dates. Just never saw any procedure being done at the homeport before.

 Is this just a Princess thing? We've never had to do this when sailing on RC.

We are flying, and going directly to the port so can't have the wine in the carry on. Can we have a bottle in checked luggage ?

People who have done so have at times been disappointed at what has happened. (Search this forum for the word "destroyed")

The policy seems designed for wine to be in a carry-on at boarding time. This is at odds with the TSA maximum size of liquids carried on to aircraft.

Try to find a way to move the checked/flown wine into a sailing carry-on after the plane lands.

Just take the bottle/s out of your suitcase before boarding. Easy enough to do right at the port. You can carry them on openly. Don't need to be in a carry on suitcase/tote etc.
