SPacificbound Posted November 1, 2013 #51 Share Posted November 1, 2013 We have only been on one cruise so far and it was RCCL Rhapsody OTC. We did not have any expectations going in, and were not comparing the entertainers to any we have previously seen. I would expect these young people are trying to break into the entertainment business, and I doubt they are paid a huge amount for performing two shows a night for the duration of their contract. There were a few nights when the floor was continually moving under them and they did quite well under the circumstances. We enjoyed the shows, the vocals, dancers, and musicians, comedian, etc.. We went to the theater every evening, first show, and then would spend a couple of hours in the Centrium. It was fun! We didn't expect Broadway (and yes we have been to Broadway shows). We didn't expect Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil (and we have been to all of them). We enjoyed what they did and look forward to our cruise #2. :) If only it wasn't 5 months away.
renee1222 Posted November 1, 2013 #52 Share Posted November 1, 2013 Compared to Freedom, I was disappointed with Jewel's production show, City of Dreams. It is the only show that I have left early (we stayed halfway through the 3rd song and couldn't take anymore). I enjoyed the rest of the entertainment on Jewel from what I recall. Freedom's shows were MUCH better, and the orchestra was outstanding. The ice shows are also spectacular! Not to be missed!
notsomadhatter Posted November 27, 2013 Author #53 Share Posted November 27, 2013 Thanks everyone for all of your thoughts. I think "to each his own" is a fair statement and not everyone has the same taste in art or music. However, if you are up on stage performing I really hope you can carry a tune. Did not expect to hear voice cracking or tempo issues in the first two minutes of a show. If something is going to be performed I hope to see it done well. Even if it's not my artistic style I would say I'm pretty good at appreciating music for the talent required. Our experience did not garner any musical appreciation. Cruise a holic Posted November 28, 2013 #54 Share Posted November 28, 2013 lol:):):) Sorry you had a bad experience. They rotate singers for the same show. I believe every nine months. We had a positive experience on the Oasis and Allure. We will again be sailing on the Allure in about 6 weeks, so I can compare the voices to the previous show. I hope that Wicked will be the show on the new RC ship!

I am looking forward to the Boogie Woogie Wonderland show they put on....from the first time we went to it (8 cruises ago) it has always been very good (and it has always had some different singers and dancers in it, from cruise to cruise). I was disappointed in the shows on Jewel, just too confusing to follow and less than wonderful acoustics. Liberty gave us wonderful shows. The others we have been on were good. I am cruising for a vacation, not Broadway. Love your point of view.
smeck Posted November 28, 2013 #56 Share Posted November 28, 2013 I agree with Sinppu, it is hit or miss. Some singers are just awful. Obviously the newer, bigger ships tend to have better shows. I did enjoy the broadway songs on the Jewel a couple of years ago, but the singers may have changed. They were showing the same show on my recent Serenade, so we skipped it. On our 12 nighters, we only went to the opening show. Most of the headliners, we had seen on previous ships and the productions show descriptions didn't look interesting.Another thing we noticed, is Royal seems to be moving to only one show at 10:15 rather than the two shows (7 & 9). Not sure if this is just a Europe thing, but I believe I read others were doing this as well. Way too late for us. The later the show the more time you have to spend elsewhere on the ship, like the casino.
