fussylady Posted November 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2013 I'll be taking a cruise stopping in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, And St. Martin. I have an unlocked quad band phone. Is there a pre-paid SIM card i can buy to use in all these different places? What's the best way to make calls with my cell phone back to US? Thanks. CruiserBruce Posted November 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Well, Puerto Rico is definitely considered part of the US for most phone plans. And St Thomas for some...
ducklite Posted November 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2013 I was able to make and receive calls on my Verizon phone in PR under my regular plan minutes. Autocorrect responsible for most typos...
khristian4 Posted November 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2013 PR and USVI are part of T-Mobile coverage. If you dont have T-Mobile then you may be able to buy a sim when there.

fussylady Posted November 3, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Thanks for all the replies. I'll admit this topic confuses me greatly. I do have a T-Mobile phone and also AT&T. If I use the T-mobile phone, do I get charged according to my usual rate plan in PR and USVI ? Thanks.

SadieN Posted November 3, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2013 We have AT&T. St Thomas and Puerto Rico are included in the plans. You could buy some international minutes from AT&T for the other islands. Buying minutes is a lot easier than dealing with SIM cards, especially when being in port for a very short period of time
jcl410 Posted November 3, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Since you are only going to one foreign port, it may make more sense to utilize international roaming service of T-mobile/AT&T. Check with your provider for the rates - double check because St. Martin is two separate countries, and the rates may be different. ***IMPORTANT*** International data rates are typically MUCH higher than when in the US. I turn off International data service on my phone any time I cruise. Aloha, John

And T-Mobiles new international roaming prices are so low you won't need a foreign sim.
fussylady Posted November 3, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Thanks for all the help. It never occurred to me that PR and USVI would be part of domestic coverage plans. And I won't bother worrying about the port of St. Martin where we'll be for only a few hours. Thanks again.
