Rare erewhon Posted November 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2013 Fire drills for the crew of the Volendam were frequently held on Port Days during the Trans Pacific Cruise. On one occasion when the fire drill was being held in the Wajang Theatre, a Nautilus Alert was sounded. This appeared to mean that Casualties had been sustained in the fire and required a more extensive involvement of the crew, including medical staff. Crew members acting as Casualties with various injuries were first evacuated to a triage centre set up in the Explorers Lounge, and after stabilization were transferred to the Medical Centre. It was a very realistic drill, handled with calm efficiency by everyone involved ( overseen by the Captain and Senior officers). During this time, some of the fire doors in the hallways were closed. Our stateroom steward was one of those assigned to carrying stretchers. The relief concierge was one of the "casualties".
CruiserBruce Posted November 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2013 "Nautilus alert"? What does that mean?
Rare puppycanducruise Posted November 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2013 Fascinating. I'm glad to hear that the crew does lots of different drills so they are prepared in the event of a real emergency.
