Casino Cash

We had a little money come out of the blue and decided to use/lose it in the casino on our cruise. Do people usually bring cash with them to use in the casino or is there some other way--use OBC or a ATM onboard?

 

You can take money from the casino on your sea pass card, there is a 5% charge and that charge will apply even if it is your OBC. You can always hit an ATM but usually the ones's on shore are cheaper.

 

Just a quick note, the casino's on the ships are black holes, they just scoop up your money.

It used to be 3% (bad enough), but 5% is highway robbery. I'll usually ask them to waive the fee. Often they will if you're a "player" in their eyes - putting in your time at mid/high bet levels and have already signed for thousands.

 

Fortunately our next two sailings are "casino" sailings where we're invited guests, and they waive the fees for those people to begin with.

 

We always gamble on the ship with money we have brought with us. I don't know about Celebrity but I went on a Carnival cruise and won $1200.:D

 

Enjoy the SMOKE FREE casino! I almost thought I was in the wrong place, as it did not smell like a casino "should"! :)

Actually, although I do play at land based casinos I don't play on cruise lines anymore, win percentage is too low. Have been on Celebrity and NCL recently, got three free cruises on NCL from Caesars. Last year on Summit, only time I was in the casino was to watch wife play and participate in a slot pull which we did well on because one of our players hit a hand pay.

We use cash for gambling in the ship's casino. We never use the Sign & Sail or ATM cards as we would lose track of our gambling $s. By using cash, we are in total control of how much we are willing to gamble in a sitting and minimize our losses.

 

Just like any other casino - sit at the table, give the dealer the cash, dealer will give you chips, when you finish playing take whatever chips you have to the cashier who will give you cash! Or hold on to your chips for your next trip to the casino. Simple! :D

I love three card poker in the casino, but you must limit yourself. The last cruise I was on I won every night and ended up with more money than I started with - I made the straight flush 2 nights in a row. :D

 

On the flip side, I had to make good with my partners' losses on the slot machines. Even with that we came out ahead...

I won a little over $1,700.00 playing a quarter slot machine on the Equinox in 2010. Corfu, Greece was our next port and I bought a chinchilla jacket with the winnings. (The next night another passenger won $20,000.00 on the same slot machine!)

In 2004 I was playing BJ at a casino in Biloxi. There was a bank of machines right next to that section of tables and there were 2-3 guys there totally going through (working on) a machine. They seemed quite focused. I asked the dealer about it and was told that the machine hit for over $10k three times within the past 24 hours. The next day I noticed that the machine had an "out of service" card on it... :D

Glad to hear you came out ahead! Straight flush is not real common, so count your money and luck.

Thank you... Actually, the casinos don't particularly like the game as players do pretty well, as compared to Caribbean Stud, etc... The best odds are Black Jack and Craps (on odds the house gets little or no cut out of it). I also like Pai Gow poker, as the house has to beat you on two hands to win or it is a push. I have only seen on it on one ship in Europe. The worst game (for a player) is Roulette - best for the house.

You have to understand how these machines operate. They are set at the factory with a certain win percentage and in most cases this is not changed during the life of the machine. If there were two wins in a few hours, it is only coincidence. The win percentage is calculated over the life of the machine.

 

As to the machines in Biloxi, machines do break down and I would guess the techs were there to check out the machine. I was fortunate to hit a life changing jackpot in Vegas and two people appeared, one was to take care of the financial end and one took two hours to check out the machine with certain procedures she was following. No one congratulated me from the casino until after the tech gave the Okay.

 

# 1 myth of slot machines under current technology is that the casinos have the ability to change the odds on the machines. As I said earlier the win percentage is set at the factory and not changed. Bottom line is they don't have to change the win percentage they will always win.
