Mini Suite to PH?

I've two weeks on the Jade next August in a mini suite for 4 of us. I've been thinking about upgrading to a PH (cheapest available) which would mean moving one of the children into my parents room which isn't a problem. The cost would be around £1375 extra (it's about £5,800 I think at present).

My question is, is it worth it? What extra perks do I get and are they worth around £100 a day. From a previous question there aren't any real perks in a MS apart from a larger cabin and bath.

Also a separate question, I'm 28 point off platinum. Am I right in thinking that I get 14 points for a two week cruise and 14 extra points for booking for booking over 9 months early i.e. 28 points?

Thanks for any replies :)

For a suite and booking 9 months out, you get 3x # of nights booked.

Only you can know if it's worthwhile to upgrade. A PH is more space. There are threads that list the perks so I'd suggest doing a search. I like the extra space and balcony best of all the perks.

Have a great, long cruise!

The penthouse would afford all full suite perks. I highly recommend the upgrade! On Jade you will have priorty embarkation from a special suite only lounge with snacks while waiting to board, will be escorted on board and to the star bar for more snacks until Cagney's opens then lunch in cagney's where you will then be escorted to your suite.

Breakfast and Lunch will be available at Cagney's for no additional cost as a perk for suite guests. You will also get priority tendering.

Also, if you upgrade remember that you will earn 14 pts for the length of the cruise, 14 pts for booking 9 months before the cruise AND 14 pts for being in a suite. So the Jade cruise would actually earn you 42 pts rather than just 28.

Please note that the child that is moved in with the parents as well as the parents wouldn't get the suite perks....unless they are also in a suite. Mini suites get none of the perks of the PH suite.

Thanks for the replies so far. where can I get a list of the perks for PH's? Sounds a bit stupid but how do I search for previous threads on here?

My parents have a PH already so we would all have the same perks.

Is breakfast and lunch in Cagney's any different or worthwhile?

Many thanks.

This is a partial list on the NCL site, at the bottom of the page. There used to be a page in their site that had the complete list, but they've moved it and my old link doesn't work anymore.

You can search Cruise Critic in two ways:

In a forum, use the "search this forum" button on the upper right side, above the first post in the forum or thread.

You can search the entire cruise critic site by using the "Search Cruise Critic" box at the top of the page.

Breakfast and Lunch in Cagney's are definitely worth it. Peace, Quiet, no fighting the crowds, and a special menu. You can also order off that menu and have your breakfast or lunch delivered and setup in your suite. FYI, for dinners you can order from any specialty restaurant and have that delivered to your suite as well, if you choose.

The only thing negative I'd say about Cagney's breakfast and lunch is that the menu does not change for the entire cruise. But you won't eat there every day anyway, particularly not lunches.

Please remember that your suite butler & concierge do not participate in the ship's tip pool. You should plan on tipping them appropriately if you feel the service warrants it.

I would consider waiting to upgrade. I also booked a mini suite as the penthouse was over 1000 more money? I watched prices carefully and was able to get a penthouse for just $220.00. I saved a grand by waiting.

This will only work if you don't care which penthouse you are in. Just something to think about.

I was just in my first suite (aft penthouse) and really enjoyed it.

The perks I loved were: priority embarkation, priority disembarkation, priority tendering, fruit in cabin, etc. I enjoyed lunch at Cagney's on embarkation day (no crowds), but only had breakfast there after that because the lunch menu, in my estimation, was too limited. The butler was great, even though I didn't use him much, same goes for the concierge.

I copied this from another thread (it was posted by WaldosPepper):

Suite categories are designated by the letter “S,” followed by a number (Haven suites) or letter (Non-Haven suites). Stateroom categories not beginning with the letter S do not receive perks.

• Haven suites have access to the Haven regardless of where they are situated on the ship. The Haven has its own pool, hot tub, sauna, and sundeck. Some have their own restaurant and bar within the Haven complex. Some Haven's also have a retractable roof over the central area. Haven configuration varies based on ship class/generation

• All suites have complimentary access to a private restaurant for breakfast and lunch.

• All suites have Butler and Concierge service. The Concierge can assist with dining reservations, shore excursion booking and guidance in many other areas. He or she also provides delivery of invitations and information to the suite, and performs all escorts on and off the ship. The Butler provides delivery of daily amenities, meals en suite, replenishes coffee and other supplies, and oversees the maintenance of the suite. Gratuity should be based upon services provided.

• All suites receive invitations to a special cocktail reception with the Captain and other Officers.

• All suites receive priority embarkation {including express through security and check-in, as well as a private lounge with various amenities to enjoy while awaiting escort aboard} and disembarkation {which includes a private area to gather, and escort off the ship & directly to the VIP Luggage area and Porter Services}, as well as priority tendering.

• All suites receive one bottle of Sparkling Wine, one large bottle of water, a bowl of fresh fruit (replenished upon consumption) and a fresh flower arrangement in their suite. (Note: Garden Villas, Deluxe Owner's Suites and Owner's Suites receive Champagne instead of Sparkling Wine)

• Garden Villa's receive 6 bottles of alcohol with unlimited mixers, soda and water, while Deluxe Owner's Suites and Owner's Suites each receive 3 bottles of alcohol with unlimited mixers, soda and water. All other categories do not receive complimentary liquor.

• All suites are provided with a variety of Elemis brand toiletries.

• All suites are equipped with a Coffee/Cappuccino/Espresso Machine (Most are Lavazza pod-style machines), however the Sun has Lavazza machines in the Owner’s Suites, but drip-style coffee brewers in all other suites (these suites cannot accommodate these devices).

• All suites have access to the Pre-Cruise Concierge service, which helps to coordinate your individual selections on pillow types, coffee and tea preferences, and a variety of special requests.

• All suites (except the SG and SJ suites on Deck 12 of the Star and some suites on the Sun) have a portable phone, which can be used throughout the ship.

• All suites are equipped with the "Bliss Bed" which truly lives up to its name, fitted with upgraded bedding. Also provided with upgraded bathrobes, as well as slippers.

• All suites have an expanded Room Service menu. Essentially, order whatever you want, and if it is available on the ship you will have it.

• Some suites have access to a reserved section of the theater on some ships, based upon stateroom category, as well as other factors, which can vary from sailing to sailing.

And on our cruise a penthouse has gone up by over a thousand. Can go either way, your choice. Also, may be none available if you wait.

Thanks for the replies and list of perks. Seems like there's a lot of benefits to be had :)

If your parents are already in a suite, it would be very worth your while to upgrade your booking to a suite as well. If it is within your budget to upgrade, I would absolutely recommend doing so.

Enjoy!

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi guys another question.

In my last post I said I'd upgraded, basically got a PH at back 32-34sqm, as travel agent said there were no larger PH left 45-50sqm (which parents are in). How much difference is there in the two in terms of wow factor etc?

Travel agent says there is no availability but NCL website says there is for a guarantee but not a specific room. Just wonder if it's worth pushing her again. It's £600 extra but seems a third bigger.

The penthouses are all very close in size and style. The real space comes when you move up to an Owner's suite.

How hard you push depends on how you value the space against the money. If you plan to spend a lot of time in your suite, or have many people in, it could be worth it. Personally, I'd stay with what I had, and spend the money elsewhere, but it's very subjective.

Make sure the sizes you're talking about is for the cabin only. Most times they also include the balcony......therefore, the cabin could be about the same but the balcony could be bigger.
