Closed while in port

On our upcoming cruise we are planning to stay on ship while in one of the ports. I know the casino will be closed, but what other things will be closed down while in port? Pools? Rock wall? Flowrider? Ice skating? We will be on Oasis. Thanks! :)

It depends on the port mostly, I have cruised to one port in Asia where they closed the casino but left the shops open. However, you can expect the casino and the shops to be closed on most ports. The rest of the public places on the shop can still be accessed. Sometimes they do serve lunch in MDR but sometimes they don't. I like to stay on board during port days because the ship feels empty, it's like of like walking around the ship late a night.

Expect the majority of activities and dinning facilities to have limited hours while in port, with the exceptions of your basic cruising amenities such as the windjammer and pools. Most activities such as the flowrider, zipline, and rock wall will have morning and afternoon hours in port, with the exception of the first port day where these activities will be open throughout the afternoon. As far as ice skating goes, check your cruise compass daily and find time that works for you.

Thank you so much to those of you that answered my question.

Catherine, do you happen to have those compasses that you could share?

Jennifer --- I can scan them (may take a day or so to do them all) (I'm assuming you are on an Eastern itinerary - as those are what I have.) Email me at jasper-cat at hotmail dot com.

Oh wow. I'll be sure to not make the slightest mistake of going off topic even 1% in the future.

I only assumed some might be interested to know more about what goes on here in Asia. I'm also interested to know if there are any differences between Asian cruises and those in your region, hence I always take the time to tell people what goes on here. Maybe one day you'll cruise out of Singapore?

Also, it is easier to read than to type :) ain't it so? And it's easier to skip any stuff you don't wanna read, and takes even more effort to flame. Save the waves, flames increase carbon footprints!

Those opening times pretty much correspond to when the ship LEAVES port - that is why those things open then.

Oasis sails from Nassau at 2, St.Thomas at 7 and St. Maarten at 5.

I see that you and the OP both live in FL, but it was an open-ended question with no specified geography. lifeboatcaptain lives and presumably cruises in Asia, and was filling in what happens there. That information was there if you bothered to look. If there is a non geographically specific question posed, perhaps you could be more polite to people who do in fact provide an answer the question that was asked. It might not be useful to you, but might be useful to others.

Can I get a like button.

I think that the OP is interested in the Oasis on its existing Caribbean cruises. Or maybe he is interested in the Oasis Trans-Atlantic cruises this fall. Anyway, I think we are in agreement that the OP did eventually mention Oasis. But the thread title and all but the very end of the OP applied to a large number of RCI ships. Other people will see the title and come to the thread looking for info they want on what is "Closed while in Port" for whatever RCI ship they will be sailing on. Many, if not most CC threads tend to contain useful information not specifically desired by the OP. Some of us are providing more generalized information since searchers had no way of knowing it was an Oasis question until the end. I have not and am not bashing you for reading the post in its entirety, but I do feel that "I don't know why the other poster had to give a long and convoluted answer" was unnecessarily unfriendly.

Close while in port is exactly why I stopped. I'll be on Grandeur in a week & as of right now, don't plan on leaving while in San Juan & May return early during the other stops.

Most of the time my DH and I will stay on the ship for the duration of the cruise and we have never felt inconvenienced by any closings around the ship. The casino and store are mostly closed but for us that's no big deal during the day. Pool and food venues as well as most activities are open. It's great staying on the ship while in port because the population onboard drops dramatically!

Afternoons of port days are excellent days to catch the movies in screening rooms on ships that have them. Often you'll have the entire theater to yourself. And the spas offer the best specials while in port.
