The comment "it's true for U. S. citizens" was to the QUESTION. In other words, yes it's true you don't need a passport on closed-loop cruises PROVIDED YOU ARE A U.S. CITIZEN. If you aren't you'll need a passport.

I'm D4 and this is exactly what I meant. I just wanted to point out that the posts saying you don't need a passport made the assumption that the poster is a US citizen.
