best drink BANG for your BUCK

Recommended Posts

I find the long Island Ice Teas to be toxic! If you are looking to get drunk quick, those are the drinks for you!

A few cruises back, the ship we were on had a BOGO drink of the day special that you could buy for the week for $25.

Even though we are both cheap drunks, my sister and I thought this was a steal and we both got one! It all started out easy enough.....First, she would buy and we would split, and then a couple of hours later, i'd buy and we would split again. We probably had 3 drinks a piece each day.

One night in the casino though we were not side-by-side and each had 2 drinks delivered to us at the same time. Well, our mother taught us never to waste so we drank them both before the ice melted! The results were quite comical and I am forbidden to discuss that nights antics by my sister again!

Both of us are now on a strict no LIT policy!

Long Island Iced Tea.... yes, in 14 days I plan on having one of those in front of me! I've never had access to the concierge lounge on Allure until this coming trip. That's awesome if they serve them there. I will definitely take advantage of that perk.

Actually it would be true if they are using canned coke. Duty free rum in bulk is less than two cents ($0.02) per ounce. Coke out of gun would be cheaper than that, but probably not out of a can. Given that labor is paid for by tips, the most expensive item in any non-call-brand drink is probably the paper umbrella in frozen drinks.

Water is in short supply in the Caribbean (the ship makes their own from sea water); all those days of sunshine come at a price of not much rain outside of hurricane season. Land resorts in the Caribbean often have complimentary afternoon rum punch parties - it turns out that rum punches are cheaper than long showers.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but that computes to a cost of less than 64 cents for a quart of rum.

I think the Bucket of Beer is the best deal: buy 5 get 1 free.

At the pool bar, order a bucket of beer. It is an ice bucket filled with six beers of your choice: when you order them like this, its buy 5 get one free. Its not always published, but universally available on all the RCCL ships I have been on , just ask!

Alcohol is cheap to make. Not that long ago I purchased a single 1.75 litre (1.85 quart or 59.2 oz) bottle of Duty Free no name 80 proof rum for US$2. That works out to slightly over 3 cents per ounce; I am guessing that bulk purchase could cut that price almost in half. When I was in grad school (okay, more than a few years ago) 190 proof grain alcohol (ethanol) ran 32 cents per quart "in bond" (tax free for authorized research facilities). Ethanol (unlike methanol) is safe for human consummation (well, maybe not at 190 proof). Since it would be against the law, none of this tax free ethanol ever ended up in punch at lab parties.
