Fantasy March 3 2014 Review With Pics

After a few hours on the beach we moved up to a couple of loungers under an umbrella near the pool shown above. The resort is very nice, there are 3 or 4 pools that meander around with loungers where you can sit in the sun or shade. There is a bar at the beach, hot tub, and hammocks. There are several restaurants/grills/cafes on the property. I had asked a security guy where to get some good conch, and he recommended Billy Joe's, which is a short walk down the beach. So we hiked down there and I had my authentic Bahamian experience with a conch burger, fries, and a cold Kalik sitting on a table on the beach. DW wasn't as happy because the music was very loud, but by the time we got back to the pool and the beach bar and she had a mango daiquiri, all was forgiven:

We spent a couple of hours after lunch enjoying the beautiful day until it was time to load up and catch the taxi back to the port. We did a little shopping in the market area before getting back on the ship. Cleaned up for dinner, where we had the table to ourselves so the service was particularly exceptional.

After dinner we relaxed for a while and then spent some time in the piano bar enjoying Kyle playing and everyone singing along. After a long day of sun and fun we returned to our cabin and met steward Gregorio's latest creation:

Woke up Thursday after another good nights sleep to find we were already docking in Nassau. Had a quick breakfast up on Lido deck, grabbed our beach bag and headed off. We had purchased day passes at the British Colonial Hilton which is just a short walk from the pier. We were checked in and on the beach by 9:30 AM.

The weather was so-so with some clouds, some sun and a few sprinkles. But we had a relaxing morning. The hotel beach is relatively small and pretty quiet. The passes($ 60 each) include beach and pool access, towels and chairs, and $ 40 worth of food and drink, which was enough for each of us to have a couple of drinks and lunch right on the beach, and leave a nice tip for Omar who took very good care of us. DW discovered her new favorite drink, the Banana Daiquiri. We hung out until early afternoon, but when a shower came thru we decided to head back to port. We shopped in the straw market and a couple of stores and took a bottle of rum and a rum cake back to the ship. By then the sun was out again and we went up to Serenity and spent the last few hours before we left Nassau at 5. Some pictures as we set sail:

We had another wonderful dinner in the Jubilee MDR. We were seated at a table for 10, but 2 nights we only had 2 other couples with us, 2 nights only 1 other couple, and 1 night it was only the 2 of us. Santos and his team were wonderful to us and had lots of time to chat and laugh. After dinner we went to the comedy show, which we really enjoyed.

Here is the critter of the day:

My fiancee and I are going on the Fantasy in July. It will be our first cruise.

Do you know if Blue Moon beer or Strongbow cider were served?

Yes they had Blue Moon beer for sure! :D

Don't know about the cider, sorry.

Please tell me about the free lanyard you mentioned. I always encourage any new cruisers who go with me to buy one and bring it along.

Thanks.

Kathy

Kathy,

Here is a picture. It is just a plastic expandable cord with a latch on one end and a ring on the other. We just went in the casino the first day onboard and the attendants will give them to you free and punch a hole in your sign and sail card and put the ring thru it too.

Have enjoyed the reviews so far. Hope to see more pictures of the ship and such. Going next summer for daughters graduation gift.

Sorry we didn't take many pictures of the ship. But here are links to a couple of great reviews with a lot of pictures:

I love reading this review because we are going this March and the same ports. After much research we also plan to do Grand Lucayan Resort and British Colonial Hilton. Did you pre-purchase your passes? If so how did you do it? We are going to be docked an extra long day in Nassau due to our Live show so basically plan to do a walking tour in Nassau in the morning and then spend time at BCH the rest of the day. We are docked a basic 8-5 day day in Freeport so just plan to do the beach at Grand Lucayan and after seeing your pictures these plans are absolutely cemented! Those pics in Freeport are absolutely awesome. I love love the Lighthouse pics in Nassau. I plan to try and be in the same place on the ship to take the same pics. Thank you for your help!

dezertspray,

Thanks for the kind words. About the day passes, for the Grand Lucayan we didn't purchase in advance, just bought them at the stand near the hotel on the way out to the beach. They have a lot of room and we got there pretty early. For the BCH we did purchase in advance thru Resort For a Day dot com.

Hope you have a great time.
