Long Beach Question

Recommended Posts

I'm on the Grand in two weeks for the CA coastal....been to Long Beach port for several cruises, but not on excursions in the area. Any suggestions for things to do, other than the Queen Mary?

When we stopped there on the Star a few years ago we rented a car.

At least there are alot of restaurants in and around the port area.

The Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific are nearby. You could rent a car and go to Huntington Beach, "Surf City," which has lots of restaurants and ships, or drive further south to Newport Beach or even Laguna Beach (about an hour's drive.) Or, head north to Santa Monica.

Stayed in Long beach before our Panama Canal cruise this January. There is a free bus service that will take you to the Aquariam of the Pacific the stop is not far from the Queen Mary. You can find the schedule for the Pasport Bus on line with the route and times that it stops. The Queen Mary was really neat to tour. There was a long line to get tickets to get in because of Chill being on.I was in line for almost an hour. Hope this helps and have a great cruise.:)

Here are the links for the free Passport Bus and the Aquarium of the Pacific.

The busstop is in the middle of the parking lot.

Go right outside the Dome, past the crew info office. The busstop will be under the trees

Also along the route is a Walmart, CVS & Albertson's. Also to the Pike and Shoreline Village. The Walmart area is dicey but OK during the day.

Could take the Metro (metro.net) to Union Station and Olvera Street or to the museums and Space Shuttle in Exposition Park but both are about an hour away.

We ride these lines with no problem but there is always the possibility of stoppages along the lines.

$1.50 per section + $1 for reloadable TAP card. Senoir discount only available with Senior TAP card, Mom got hers about 8 weeks after application. Best to get the all day $5 pass.

Only reliably clean bathrooms are in Union Station.

Union Station Route-- Blue Line (Long Beach)- Red or Purple Line (7th St Transfer Station-- Union Station $3

Exposition Park-- Blue Line (Long Beach) - Silver Line (Pico Station) $3

I would rent a car and go to the Peninsula in LB, just off of Second Street down Bayshore Drive. Another option would be to take Second Street to Ravenna and go right and walk around Naples, an island with beautiful homes. A third option would be to go to Seal Beach which is a little further down on Pacific Coast Highway. It's a little town with a friendly vibe. There are shops and restaurants, and you can also walk along the beach or out on the pier. When we lived in S CA we went for many walks in that area and try to go back whenever possible.
