Oceania Air to Sydney

Does anyone have any experience using Oceania air with a deviation flying from NYC to Sydney and back from Papeeti? I was curious if there was a hefty upcharge in addition to the deviation fee and whether there were multiple stops other than NYC-LAX. Also, does Oceania offer premium economy or only economy. Thanks.

On our last cruise Papeete to Sydney on the Marina in February,we flew to LA on our AA points. Stayed in LA for 3 days then took Air Tahiti to Papeete and Qantas Premium Economy from Sydney to JFK.O gave us $1200.00PP for air allowance and Qantas flights where $2600.00 PP.That included the LA to Tahiti flight. Economy but not bad 2 abreast seating and only an 8 hour flight.

You are far better off getting the air credit ($600PP) in many cases and saving the deviation ($175)

Use miles or $$ for NY to LAX and spend a day or 2 after a 5.5 hour flight before getting a 15.5 hour LA to SYD. If taken in one continuous trip ist going to take a solid 25 hours of continuous flights and connections

You can get Quantas 1 way Business in a lie flat seat for $3690pp..(.this is one of the longest and most difficult flights in the world... like flying NY to LA 3 times in one day without getting off!!)

Qantas has some sales now for one way Economy Premimum then Take Oceaina from Tahiti as Tahiti 1 way fares are obscene.

On this 8.5 hour to LA, sometines they sell business for $699.....for the PPT to LAX segment then you still have the 5.5 hours to NY in coach. Or take the Oceania as far as LAX and using miles then LAX to NY. This latter way will give you again a day to break from a difficult flight

Hi

Not sure about Premium economy but do offer upgrades to business class.

However, note business class for most American Airlines is a little behind the rest of the world regards what is provided etc.

Have used Qantas a number of times from LAX to SYD. Flew Premium Economy and was reasonably comfortable. Can buy 1 way fares for no penalty when you go on-line to them.

Re : Papeete back.

We used Air Tahiti from Papeete to Auckland one way but booked a return as it was cheaper. Did not use the return portion. Common trick used in Eurtope to get cheap fares.

The other thing with Air Tahiti is change the location of where you are. We had a price for business class on the Australian site which was more than $700 more for the 2 of us than when we checked the NZ site. Also never buy from these airlines where there are based. It is the era of e-tickets so there is no need to book as you in the USA. We do this all the time.

Just did a Rome to Brisbane flight with Emirates and booked it online in Dubai. Not in Rome or Brisbane. It was cheaper than Rome or Brisbane for the same flights.

Maybe does not help but that is how we do fares.

Hi

Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia both do premium economy from Aust to US ,Tahiti is a tricky place to get in and out of and a highly controlled route .

I would take the money and see if you can make Air New Zealand work for your timings their new premium economy product is great.

Air NZ has a great premium economy but is way higher priced than Qantas

With few exceptions do not buy a business class seat from Oceania unless it is one of there advertised specials !

Here is an example: Flying Hawaii to Tahiti coach NO charge. Ask for Business it is first a $175 charge plus $2900pp !!!

But if advertised the cost is only $699, but only for the international section of the flight
