Silver Spirit thru a newbies eyes :)

I find it a touchingly naive view that strolling in a carefree fashion to one's muster station, whether touching the shoulder of the person in front or not, bears any relation to what would happen in a real life emergency - think Concordia, Herald of Free enterprise. I know the company are required to do this but it's a joke. It really is.

And I should know - OH made me watch Titanic a few years ago. So there!

WendyG, I am very sorry to hear about your experience in the dining room. You really should bring this to the attention of the dining room manager immediately and give them a chance to set things right. They will want to fix it for you to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Hi Wendy & Ron. Hope you had fun on your segway tours. Can't wait to hear more about your adventures :) How's the food?

To all of you discussing the muster drills:

Let's not ruin Wendy's "Live from" with your opinions! I'm sure you can find another thread about them and whine over there!

We had a wonderful day in St Maarten. The weather was beautiful, 82 and sunshine. We took the water taxi to town, walked to Fun and Roll Tours, and started our Segway adventure. Those things are cool!  We both enjoyed an hour on those riding up and down the boardwalk, then on the beach, and back to their shop to drop them off and head off on an island tour. We have been here numerous times, but we always like to drive around and see this pretty island with a stop at Orient Beach for the infamous “Feeling Good Punch” It’s amazing how good you feel after drinking one! :D

Service was wonderful the whole day, our waiter at breakfast was fabulous, very attentive, service with a smile. We dined at Hot Rocks for dinner and it was great, packed with people so you know it must be a popular hot spot (no pun intended) Adrian is the host, and very nice. We both ordered steaks, put on our bibs, and had a wonderful meal with a fabulous atmosphere and everyone enjoying the great weather, with music playing by the pool. Oh, speaking of the pool, an Asian man in his 30’s had some sort of issue in the pool today and almost drowned! Someone saw him struggling, yelled help, and another passenger dove in to pull him up. He came out coughing, and he didn’t speak English, but kept bowing to the other man who saved him. Scary stuff!

We visited the observation lounge which is lovely, our main hangout is Panorama Lounge since trivia is there (really like their trivia) 26 questions starting from A-Z so they give you a head start on the answers! We came in second place again, happily collecting our points, unsure of what we can redeem them for, but we just like to play.

We have yet to see a show or visit the casino, I blame the fact of them constantly pouring you wine, until you’re so tired, you go to sleep at ten!

We really like this ship. The layout is wonderful and everyone is so pleasant, from the staff to all the fellow cruisers. Even the children are well behaved. 500 people is so much nicer than 5000.

This is a fabulous cruise!

Next stop, Tortola :)

Hi all,

Regarding the muster, I was just commenting how different it was, not complaining. It as just odd.

Fizzy, in case of a real emgergency, I stil have no idea what to do, when they walked us outside, we couldn't hear anything that was being said.

In regards to the service, I wasn't sure what to expect, other passengers on the cruise told me to complain also, but I don't really like to complain, I just wait and hope it gets better, (and it did!) If something really gets bad, I most certainly will open my mouth, I'm not real shy about expressing my opinions!

I tend to be more laid back whilst on vacation, less seems to bother me. Having a nice glass of red in hand helps!

Thank you for all your input :)

Janis, the food is wonderful. Ron being the pickier eater has yet to complain about any meal, yesterday at lunch he had some fried shrimp from the buffet and raved about it. They have a great salad bar too, our favorite meal at lunch!

My mom loves those shrimps too! :)

You can special order those whenever you like, as long as you give enough time for them to prepare. 1 day ahead is what they recommend, but often they can whip up some simple things, like my favourite spaghetti and scallops, without pre-ordering.

Enjoy your cruise!

Our day in Tortola was our nothing day. We have been here before and I remember as if it were yesterday (and it was 11 years ago) how damn scary the roads were when we did a tour of this beautiful island. No thank you! We did get off the ship and walk to town, just to get some exercise and take some pics, and back to the ship by noon to have lunch and spend a leisure day onboard this beautiful ship.

The on demand movies in the cabin are nice, I took a bubble bath in a full length very comfy tub, and we had a nice lunch at the pool grill. Thinking I was on Princess I walked up to get a hotdog, but was told to sit and order it. How nice that the plate came with french fries, onion rings, coleslaw, and garnish (lettuce pickle, raw onion) and my hotdog had grilled onions and the bun was toasted. Service has been much better lately. :)

Went to afternoon trivia, yes, you guessed it, came in second again! Then we had the welcome aboard cocktail party for all the first time silversea cruisers. That was very nice, Kirk said a few things, and off to dinner we went. Arrived at 7:15, sat at a table for eight, and at 10:10 I left before dessert and coffee because I had to meet some friends at Name that Tune which turned out to be very fun. There is a man onboard named Gary who is a songwriter in Britain, (he looks just like Austin Powers) he was so mad at missing ONE question out of 40! His companion was a fabulous singer, they were behind our team and I got up and sat down with them right after they won, and got a three point card LOL All their team gave me their cards, so I racked up 18 points last night! Woohoo! All in all it was a great night, I even made my way to the casino, and made a donation at three card poker. Their casino is NON smoking, how wonderful is that???

I was thinking how easy it is to go from the big mass market ships to the smaller ones, but it probably isn’t so easy starting on the smaller ones and going bigger. We met two ladies from Australia at dinner last night who were on SeaDream Yacht Club last week, and said it was major culture shock to come onboard here with 551 guests. I met a lot of people that much prefer the smaller Silversea fleet, the Wind being the majority favorite of all the people we have spoken to.

Our weather has been perfect every day and this little ship hardly rocks at all. The beds are super comfy, and our butler, Cecelia, is absolutely wonderful!

Yes, we are definitely fans of Silversea :D

Next stop, Samana and our ATV excursion!

I seem to have missed a day!

Samana was our stop yesterday, we had a fun ATV ride, and came back to the ship right afterwards. It was sad there, the kids begging for money, the dogs were all skinny and seemed unhealthy, I did not like it. The island is pretty though, just too much poverty. The highlight of our day was finally coming in first place at trivia! :)

Today was our sea day and it was very relaxing. We went to a port lecture on Piracy in the Bahamas (we will be in Nassau tomorrow) and then we went to Phillips diamond chat. He is one very entertaining fellow! We really enjoyed his ‘show’. What a great personality he has, one lady said he could sell sand to an Egyptian living in the desert. LOL

We had lunch in the Restaurant, service was good, we went to afternoon tea, the service was good. We tied for first place in trivia even though the other team had 11 players! Next we showered and changed for dinner and went back to Panorama to have happy hour. I sat for ten minutes, not one person came over to offer me a drink so we left and went to the Observation Lounge to watch the sunset. That was lovely (and we were asked for our order within twenty seconds of sitting down) For us, the service has been the worst in Panorama. After dinner we went to Stars to listen to the wonderful singer there, she has one fabulous voice. The show tonight was Abba but we are not big fans so we skipped that.

All in all a wonderful day at sea, we have had the best weather all week and smooth seas but today has been a very rocky sea day and tonight the boat just keeps getting rockier. Thankfully, neither one of us is prone to seasickness, it’s pretty bad though as a few people were sitting solo and said their spouse was seasick. :( I am glad we aren't staying on for the crossing.

It’s after 11 now and time for bed, I bet we sleep like babies with all this rocking…

Hey gurl,

Samana sounds horrible! Thanks for the heads-up on that port.

Hopefully the port lecture was on "Piracy long ago" and not "Current Piracy in the Bahamas"

Congrats on the trivia win. No ship on a stick for you though.

Wish we were there with you for the rocking and rolling...

Have fun.

WendyG, enjoying your commentary. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. For what it's worth, you hit the "kids lottery"! In all of our years sailing with Silversea, we have never heard of 42 kids onboard...most we ever heard of was over Christmas and in the 20 range. We were on the week before and they were getting ready. We don't cruise during school vacation, so the most we have ever had on the Spirit was 5 or 6.

Anyway, glad to hear you are having a good time. We enjoy many of the activities you do as well! Happy to hear you are having fun.
