Freedom "Behind the Fun" Tour

We've never done a "behind the fun" tour but they sound great. Has anyone done one on the Freedom? Thoughts?

Did it on Glory its sister ship and it was an awesome time. 4 hours with lots of questions asked and all over the ship.

Did it on her sister the Liberty back in January. Book it immediately upon boarding. You won't regret spending the money. It's a great time

lots and lots of walking and climbing up and down steps so make sure you can do it.

We did the tour on our 6/1/14 sailing on the Freedom. It was truly awesome and worth the price. I am glad that we did it, but I don't feel I will need to do it again. A few key points

 

1.) Because of the time of the tour, we missed the Seuss breakfast they had, we don't have kids, so it wasn't a big deal, however I can see it being an issue for some.

 

2.) You must wear closed toed shoes, so don't forget to pack them.

 

3.) The tour did not include the medical center, and being a nurse I was super disappointed. After the tour, I did go back down and they showed me around and talked to me. There were no patients so they were happy to oblige.

 

You get to see many cool things and ask questions about ship life. There is a lot of walking, but I'm carrying around some pounds and was not put out by the walking at all. Two guys in our group used canes and they were fine even with the stairs. The food storage area is super fascinating to see....so much work goes into a cruise it is unbelievable. My fiancé enjoyed our time in the engine control room, but I could care less. And the bridge was very neat to see as well.

Interesting they did not show us the medical center. Did show us some crew cabins which are very small.

 

Also didnt see the brig. Overall just an awesome tour

We did it on the Freedom this past Feb. LOVED it. It was a great tour. Like other posters said there is alot of walking and some pretty steep stairs. I'm not the most active person, but had no problem with it.

 

It is worth every penny. I think it was about $90 but don't remember exactly. I believe its the last sea day - that's when ours was.

Wow, you have to pay for the tours now? On my first Carnival cruise (pre-2001) they were offered as free activities and we even got to tour the bridge as part of that. On the last one (2009) we did a galley tour which was also interesting and free.

Yeah, I agree. I never paid for tours years ago, and now I could not care less about taking one, especially if it costs me!

 

Engine rooms, galleys, bridges, places some would not even dare venture to (anchor chain locker). I've seen them all for free, once even escorted alone with the chief engineer. I enjoyed cruising when it was, well, BETTER!

 

Ever stood on a bridge during departure / arrival? I have, several times, and that was at the invite of the captain!

 

Today it is all about $$$. :(

I've taken this tour.

Interesting,,, but will not be interested to do it again.

For me,, it kind of ruins the cruise/ WOW factor to learn about the "Back of the House" details.

Whether it be Vegas, a cruise ship, an AI, or whatever,,,, there are certain things that WOW you. Maybe it's how do they make all that food. Maybe its how do they do all that laundry. Maybe its the towel animals,,,,,,

These things used to WOW me.

Now that I've seen all the hard work that goes into performing and managing these tasks,,,,,, I feel a little guilty about enjoying these small things.

It was $95pp. They gave us a few goodies afterward (bracelet, backpack, ball cap) and 3 photos the photographer took during the tour. Also included a small glass of champagne or a mimosa at the end and a snack in the galley. It was worth it and we both enjoyed doing it.

I did the behind the fun tour on the miracle and was pretty interesting. Just got off the Fantasy in April and heard that is $25.00 on the Fantasy Class Ships.

I have always been adamant that I would never pay the $95 per person for a tour that should be free. However, after nearly 20 cruises, We finally broke down and splurged for the tour on the Freedom last year. We were very surprised on how good it was. The goodies they gave were junk. But it was still worth it. We'd probably never do it again, but definitely don't regret it.
