    • I don't care. I prefer the shows, music venues, and comedy club instead.

Generally despise the NFL in general these days but Sunday and Monday night football is part of American culture, sorry to say. And most Carnival cruisers out of US ports are American so it makes sense. Even people who really don't follow football often watch on Sunday and Monday nights, just because it brings people together around a single event and people socialize while watching the game. So yes, Carnival should air these games on the lido big screen TVs. Hope John Heald is paying attention to this thread and the 2-1 results in favor of showing the games.....

I hope JH is paying attention too. A keg party with lots of buffalo wings on Lido would be great during the games on the big screen! That's my suggestion for new activities.

I thought I read that the beards were paying attention to threads like this. Granted, cc is a very small fragment of all cruisers but a vocal one that spends a lot of time at sea and spends a lot of money, along with spreading the virtues of cruising by word of mouth to many more people. Carnival HAS to bring some form of wings to its ships also. I know NCL has them and the others may also. Doesn't even have to be on a widespread basis but they should be available. I know wholesale wings go for like over $2 a pound these days and they aren't the easiest thing to make just right but they should still try. Even a small upcharge and people would still pay it, IMO.

What a great series that was :D

No.

I was at game 6. One of the worst moments I can ever remember at a sporting event. Thanks for rubbing it in. Only good thing was that Pat Burrell got another WS ring. The Phillies might see another playoff by the end of the decade if they're lucky. Maybe the Giants want to take some of our garbage off our hands for cheap this year at the trade deadline? :)

You hit it on the money my man.

Thanks. I have followed the NFL less and less over the years although college and highschool football is still great to watch but I like to think I have my finger on the pulse of American culture. For most, the NFL is either about socializing on a weekend or about going to the parking lot before the game, and tailgating or about betting on the games. The actual game isn't as important to many people as everything surrounding it.

I don't watch football, other than the Superbowl and even then that's for the commercials and halftime. I'm sure that's what the sports bar is for, though.

The sports bars on cruise ships are not even close to being big enough for football and the amount of people interested in watching. The NBA finals were shown in the casino bar on the Dream on my last cruise and the seats filled up 2 hours before they started. And the NBA is peanuts compared to the NFL.

Wow,you must miss Spurrier(spell).

Reguardless of schedule,a win is a win

and a perfect season means something.

Fla.Gators can go undefeated till they play

the Noles, then we'll see who the best team is.

I will say SEC is strong, but the ACC is a little

stronger.

We've had a couple coaches and national championships since Spurrier left, ya know :p I had no idea that FSU was the only team in the ACC! Besides, I'd like to see the over/under on when Famous Jameis get arrested again.

Howard just sat there for the final pitch:rolleyes:

Pat was a great pick up. Nice guy and it helped Aubrey Huff to become a better player for the rest of the season

Wouldn't mind Chase but too big a contract

Was hopong we would get Revere while we were in town

EXACTLY!! The sports bars are far to small to handle the traffic. On our cruise in May, we wanted to watch the NBA Playoff Semi-Finals, not even the finals and we had to get to the tv area atleast an hour ahead of time to secure our seats. Some nights there were people packed 10-15 rows deep with standing room only around the TVS.

On the cruises with bigger screens, its really hit or miss with how many people show up to watch the movies, in my experience. Since we are only talking about 2 nights here, its only fair they show NFL, in my opinion...

I totally agree. Just look at how many people come to this board to ask if football games will be televised on the ships prior to making a booking. Football fans are rabid and don't want to go if they are going to miss their favorite team playing, and especially for big games. That goes for college football too. And especially during playoff season.

If Carnival is looking for ways to gain an advantage on its competitors, providing football games on the big screens and in the sports bars is a great way to do it. And becoming familiar enough with that football culture to know how we like to tailgate and what we like to eat and drink before and during games is very important too IMO. A big tailgate party prior to big games would be awesome on the ship. And I know it would increase alcohol sales on the ships because nobody has to worry about driving home.

I really don't think that most of the ships' staff understand what American football culture is all about since they are not from the U.S. They don't understand that when our local teams are playing, the streets at home are half-empty because so many people are at home or at a bar cheering their favorite team on.

Are you listening Carnival? Let's have some great tailgating food and football parties on the ships along with showing the games on the big screens and in the sports bars. How about finding an expert on this like they found Guy Fieri to tell them how to make great burgers. Can you imagine a wing and nacho bar to top your own?

Yeah, I wasn't mad Pat got to win one more time before hanging them up. He matured a ton in about 10 years. He did retire a Phil and I think he's a scout now for somebody, maybe event the giants. Utley would cost a ton and he's one guy the Phillies probably won't trade because he's been so important to the franchise and the entire Philadelphia area. If you guys want Mr .300 ba, .305 obp and .290 slugging, no arm Revere however, offer anything and he's yours LOL. And that K looking was the beginning of the end for Howard. Has been steadily declining and is a shell of his former self now.

Yep, American football is unique in that it really doesn't have constant action but people from all walks of life follow it and the world in a lot of places basically shuts down on game days. I just remember sitting in the muster drill on a cruise a while back and seeing a bunch of people sneaking peeks at nfl gameday on their phones as their favorite team was in the 4th quarter of their game. These people risked getting in trouble during a very important drill to monitor a regular season football game. If they showed the games on the lido t.v. that area would immediately become the most popular area on the ship and yes, alcohol sales would be through the roof. Talk about a party atmosphere.

The current sports bars are lousy if you ask me. They only show espn, so in order to see your favorite team's news or score, you have to sit there and get the news through the ticker which takes a little while to play through. The atmosphere is ok but yea, they are small venues for sure.

I agree that a lot of people who aren't from the USA and didn't grow up with the nfl being part of the culture don't get it but if they hang around people on a cruise ship you would think they would begin to get the idea after a little while. I noticed it takes cruise lines a while to catch up with fads and current trends on land but eventually they get it and tailor stuff onboard to what people are currently interested in.

They really should offer more pub style food options somewhere on the ship. Beer and wings would sell like crazy on football day. Make it happen carnival!

I'll be on the glory for thanksgiving so I'm hoping I get to watch games all day on the lido deck. I was on the destiny 2 years ago and they showed a Thursday and Monday night game. I think that was the most I socialized with strangers the whole week. They can play sports the entire time for all I care.

Oh and Big 10 rules!!! I love watching sec games but hate them because they always destroy us.

Go browns go buckeyes!!
