Music level onboard ships ?

If Jimmy Buffet is your idea of good music, well, I just don't know what to say. And the Lido bands were horrible. Every. Single. One. Horrible.

 

Again (I say it in every thread about music), BAD music is worse than no music at all. And LOUD, BAD music is pretty-much intolerable.

 

Loud does not equal fun. No, really. Loud doesn't equal drink more booze.

 

I'm much more inclined to drink more if I'm sitting and having interesting conversations with others. Radical idea, isn't it? :p

Agreed that Jimmy Buffet is played. And I mean that in the vernacular sense. Ditto clanking steel drums.

Just off do the Sunshine, the music on the Lido was way too loud, and it made the serenity decks less than Serene....it was so loud that in order to have lunch we would get food at the Blue Iguana and then head into the area by the Havana bar so that we could hear one another over lunch. The production shows are also always too loud which distorts the music and at times with the music tracks they use now the music far overwhelmed the weaker voices in the show...thus, they would turn up the singers microphones...making their voices seem way off...we did have one young man with an astounding voice on the Sunshine and he was able to sing over the music without difficulty....others it was hit or miss...

So is the problem solely with Carnival or is it will all the cruise lines? Sometimes it's awfully loud.

I don't want to have to retreat to my cabin because of loud music

 

I plan on bringing my own music to listen to via headphones, but I fear that ship music will be overbearing even with my own music playing :-(

 

That will probably be true anywhere they have a DJ. There are lots of quiet places to sit however - just not on the Lido deck. By reading the above comments, I do not see how the DJ's & loud music will sell more alcohol when they drive people away from the main outside bars? Of course, I am older and do not care for the music selection (rap, hip-hop, techno) that the DJ's play, so that may also be a factor in keeping me away.

I bring some of those foam ear plugs. Almost all the shows are to loud for me. The pool are is usually very loud also.

Funny, the only quiet place is the casino.... lol well, that's what I tell my Husband, anyway.

It's interesting to read this thread. I find the lido deck movies to be more difficult to tolerate. Especially in the mornings. I am guessing some of the volume is due to windy days and nights at sea.

 

I like the music on the lido deck. (I am 51) I like watching the sea day games and talking to other passengers. Maybe I haven't been on one of those ships where the DJ got crazy with the volume.

Not only is it too loud, the choice of music is obnoxious. The big screen is way too loud. Hello Princess...

Carnival's loud music saves me money. We get one DOD at sail away and abandon the Lido for our quiet balcony. DW & I like to play in the casino after dinner and on sea days, but if the band is playing loud DW won't even stop there and we end up on our balcony reading our Kindles.

 

During our last cruise, on the Conquest, we noticed almost every music venue was loud. The atrium band even made it hard to talk to the excursion and guest services people. I had never noticed the music playing in the MDR on other cruises, but on the Conquest it was even turned up.

 

I wonder if the OP was referring to a comment about the Atrium band because the sound would carry up and may be loud in the glass elevators. I've never heard any music from the elevators themselves.
