Explorer of the Seas – 9 Night Bermuda/Caribbean Cruise (31 Jul -9 Aug) Review

My quick review (since I didnt bother keeping track of what day was what):

Weather was much better than I feared due to Bertha. In fact, I didnt even notice the high winds mentioned by the OP. It at least kept the bugs away.

First time on RC, and I liked it. our waiter made origamy for the kids each night, the coffee seemed to taste better than princess' (or maybe I was sleepier when I drank it.), lots to do if you were so inclined.

Food was good for the most part. The shrimp was hit or miss. I dont think I had anything I couldnt eat, except for one side dish that I dont know what it was supposed to be.

Kids loved Adventure Ocean. woo hoo. That in itself would have made the trip.

Ports were nice. I wish Labadee was a longer trip. Could have used 8am to 7pm in order to do the events and relax. Horseshoe Bay was beautiful. Old San Juan a pleasant surprise. I didnt really care for St Martin.

Elevators were annoying. Sometimes they would get stuck on a floor, and wouldnt move. The doors would close, then reopen, close, reopen. Also, the whole 3rd/4th floor not able to walk back and forth (except through the casino).

Sure, the carpets and couches were stained, and some paint needing touchup. But, no worse than my house, so I cant complain too much...

So glad that everyone enjoyed my review and found it helpful. If you have any additional questions about the Explorer or the intinerary, please do not hesitate to ask. We have sailed on EOS 6 times and it is one of our favorite ships on RCI. She will be missed in NJ for sure. Happy Cruising!

How were the C&A events onboard?

Hi, there was a welcome back function on the 2nd sea day for C&A members to meet the Captain and ask some questions. I didn't get to attend that but heard it was informative. The other Welcome Back event was the C&A party held later in the week with the Captain and the staff. This was held in Maharaja's Lounge on deck 5. Also as Diamond+ members we were given a choice of touring either the galley or the bridge. My girls decided to do the bridge tour and really enjoyed it.

We did visit the Diamond Lounge up on deck 14 once night for cocktails and treats. That was nice and a great view with all the windows.

Hi Joe and Karen - George and Joyce from Long Island, NY. George wanted to know how you made out with your umpiring clinic in Yaphank. Hopefully the ferry trip was easy for you - George's email is gal405@msn.com - hope the boys are doing well and enjoying the last few weeks of summer before school begins!

Hey Anne!

Just finished reading your review. Very enjoyable. Love your positive attitude. We've sailed on Explorer a number of times and have it booked for a B2B for New Year's Eve. The last time we were on board, Denzil was the Concierge and we loved him. I hope he will be there in December.

Again, thanks for the great review. Happy Sailing!!

Great review and great pictures too. We leave on the Explorer Aug. 28th for our last cruise on her. Will certainly miss her.

I agree, Denzil is a great Concierge. One of the best, if not "the" best.

Thanks for taking the time to do this review. Really appreciate it. Glad too, to hear that the debarkation went well. I am hoping for the same. Last Dec. it was the worse I ever experienced.

Gwen :)

Hi Anne - Joyce and George from Long Island - Terrific review and enjoyed your many details and activities. We had a fabulous time with our dear friends Carl and Doris. We are looking forward to sailing again on the Explorer on 10/23 for the last time. It was a pleasure meeting you and Julie.

Hi Joyce it was so nice to meet you and your hubby, George. Tell Carl, Julie said hi and that I'm trying to convince her to do the Quantum cruise in January with you all. That's January 11-23 for 12 nights correct? Have fun on your Oct Explorer cruise.

Yes we are sailing January 11, 2015 on Quantum. We also booked the Anthem for January 2016.

Keep your fingers crossed that I convince Julie to go and her schedule will work with it. I'm ready to go! Will keep you posted. Take care!

Hi Anne-

Loved reading the review of your cruise because we had planned on sailing with you....but, unfortunately we needed to cancel last minute due to the passing of my FIL. Luckily, we had insurance. Perhaps our paths will cross on a future cruise. Sounds like we missed a great cruise and meeting nice people.
