anteaters Posted August 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Hi! I read in a 2011 travel book that the Picasso Museum is free on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 on. Does anyone know if this is still in effect? Or, is it worth the price to do the Picasso Museum for someone who enjoys art but would not spend too much time there? Thanks! campolady Posted August 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Well worth a visit - we are not particularly art lovers but found it very interesting. Also try the great little bar (Bodeguita El Gallo) immediately opposite the entrance for some of the best tapas in Malaga. canadiantraveller Posted August 16, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 16, 2014 If you're going for the free admission be sure to get there early. The line up gets quite long and moves slowly. We got there around 2:30 and there were already lots of people waiting. We found the gallery interesting but not great. Depends on your taste. CintiPam Posted August 16, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2014 You should know that the Picasso Museum collection is made up primarily of his very early works, so you will not be viewing the Picasso art you are used to seeing.
atlast95 Posted August 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2014 We were in Barcelona in July and did the Tourist Office Picasso Walking Tour that includes a walking tour of Picasso's haunts in the old city and then entry and tour of the Picasso Museum. The tour begins from the main tourist office in Placa Catalunya. There is a coupon in the Turistic Bus (not the red buses) book that gives 50% off any of the three walking tours offered by the Tourist Office. There was a big line at the museum when we arrived but we bypassed it with our guide. When we left about an hour before closing the line had dissipated. We met some people who had tried to enter the museum on the free Sunday but the line was too long. Also, as another option I believe you can pre-book your entry tickets to avoid the line. We like art and thought the tour was worthwhile.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted August 21, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2014 We thought it was a terrific collection. I'd pay instead of waiting to get in for free--you will deal with much larger crowds and lines.
