grandmadeb Posted April 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2004 Haven't seen this one yet. I have a lovely light mauve dress, kinda like a dusty rose in color for formal nights. I was wonder what color to paint my nails, or should I just leave them bare. I have acrylic nails. FYI, all my other clothes are in blues and greens and tans. ryansmemom Posted April 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2004 I always like to get a french manicure for my cruises. It's so simple, classy and matches any outfit. Linda Thanks for listening

klauer Posted April 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 2, 2004 If you don't like French, OPI has some nice light "bridal" pinks.
TOPCATS2 Posted April 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 2, 2004 I just got home from my pre-cruise manicure and pedicure. I wanted something light colored but not neutral (to boring). I ended up with OPI's aphrodite's pink nighty. It's the perfect color for any thing. Looks great on the toes too. Hope this helps. Have a great cruise, Jill
mari 10 Posted April 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2004 I agree either french or OPI in the new pink shades. match your nails and toes for a head to toe look. Mari
chirurgeon Posted April 2, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2004 I used Aphrodite's Pink Nightie on my cruise. A lovely pink that worked very well on fingers and toes. Kim
Solo Cruiser Posted April 2, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2004 For years, I have worn OPI's Bogata Blackberry on my fingers and toes. In keeping with the spring thing I went with a deeper shade of pink, OPI's To Eros is Human. I rarely match nail color to outfits, just to toenails and lipstick shades. JanetMarie Posted April 3, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2004 French nails are very nice. For me, the only time that I wear "coral" is when I have a tan. It's something about the shade that looks beautiful on tan skin. OUR NEXT ONWARD JOURNEY!
SissyG Posted April 3, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2004 I almost never match my fingers and toes, I like a bright magenta like Kinky in Helsinki or Santiago Sangria on my toes and a lighter shade or neutral on my fingers. Yesterday I bought Essie's Bond Beige, a lt. ivory pearl for my fingers to wear the night I wear my tux on the second formal night. I want that all over ivory and pearl look and thought pink fingernails would stick out like a sore thumb. more days until we cruise on the Island A dream comes true on the Sapphire Princess in <IMG SRC="http://escati.linkopp.net/cgi-bin/countdown.cgi?trgb=000000&srgb=00ff00&prgb=800080&cdt=2004;11;22;17;00;00&timezone=GMT-0800" Sapphire Princess 30 day LA to Sydney 11/22/04 Island Princess W. donnabres Posted April 4, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 4, 2004 I have terrible nails, have been using TIPS from QVC. Trying to grow them, but they still look terrible. I have been thinking about having them done and french manicure. I am just afraid of ruining my already ruined nails if that makes any sense. What should I do? I think that nice nails look so great and always feel like mine leave too much to be desired. donna Sky April 25, 2004 PANAMA CANAL
klauer Posted April 4, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 4, 2004 I have terrible nails too, and tried everything people suggested -- Nailtiques, Nail Envy, regular manicures, vitamins, etc. I have acrylic nails now and couldn't be happier. I keep them short and have a good nail technician who keeps the acrylic thin and natural looking. I know that acrylic is supposed to "ruin" your natural nails, but since mine are so bad to begin with, there is nothing to ruin!
grandmadeb Posted April 5, 2004 Author #13 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I went to my nail place this weekend to get a nail repaired and they had gotten some new colors in! I found one by OPI called purple-opolis. It is a mauvy purple color that will look awesome on my toes. AND I am going to get little palm trees painted on each big toe also. I will leave my nails plain/french. After all, being 50, I don't want to get too wild! We sail on the 17th! The Barbershop chorus (my husband is a member)held their last rehersal Sunday! What a great performance it will be on board ship!(this is why we are going on the cruise) They will be performing twice/going out and coming back into port. imatarb Posted April 5, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I vote for the french manicure, too. I'm going to head to my salon before my cruise and get mine done, so it's easy! Oh, and I love the palm tree idea. I might steal that for my pedicure! lszu Posted April 5, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I'd go for a nice light pink. Or maybe a pink French. Don't forget to bring a topcoat with sunscreen! klauer - I hear you. My natural nails are so bad wearing acrylics can't do much more damage and at least I have pretty nails. lszu Sovereign 7/99 Monarch 7/00 Vision 9/01 Voyager 9/02 Adventure 9/
Jane110 Posted April 17, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 17, 2004 I never match my fingers and toes. My skin is very pale and I like red toenails. I wear Opi's Kennebunk-Port. It's a nice deep red but not too burgundy, which would look harsh on my white feet. On my hands I wear a sheer white. I don't like the look of french manicures - too outdated 1980's. Sometimes I wear a color on my hands at home, but never on vacation since I don't want to have to spend any part of my vacation fixing chipped polish and you can't count on being able to get a manicure appt on the ship's spa. Unless you're going to fix your nail color every day, I'd stick to a pale color as you'll probably chip it a bit on a cruise. With a neutral color it won't be noticed, but with color it will and will look sloppy.
susan.l.reeves Posted April 18, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Hi all, For those of you that may have wondered about acrylics damaging your nails: I've worn acrylic nails since **1981** without ever having them removed. On a few occasions I've had to go as long as a month between "refills". Thus the nailbed has grown out considerably. The nails and nail beds have never appeared damaged in any way. In all that time, I've only had two times where water was trapped between the acrylic surface and nail bed causing a fungus to develop. It was quickly taken care of by the application of a anti-fungal lotion and drying well, before the "refill" was completed. I've never had a problem in almost 23 YEARS! Pretty nails all the time. Oh, I always match my fingers and toes. I wear OPI "Red" which seems to go with everything. Always take a bottle along with me on the cruise (just in case). You never know what might happen. Bon Voyage to all. My next cruise: Constellation Transatlantic Sept 2004.
donnabres Posted April 23, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 23, 2004 Well, I did it. Got nails today. Short, and it still feels weird. Got a french manacure. Love it. Now if I can keep it looking good for my 17 night cruise, I'll be happy. For the 1st time in my life, I've got pretty nails. mertensmk Posted April 29, 2004 #20 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Just wanted to pass on something about bad nails to the group that I've experienced recently. I have always had weak, thin nails that broke off and peeled when they got to a certain length. Recently having been on weight watchers and reaching a plateau, my teacher recommended I add more calcium to my diet. Well I have noticed that my nails must have benefited from the additional calcium because they are growing, stronger, longer and look so much better. I take 1000 mg supplement per day and try to get in 3 servings of calcium each day in my diet. This might help those of you with weak nails also. Good luck!
