bornfreenowexpensive Posted September 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I have read up on this resource for emergency medical evacuation coverage on Flyer Talk, RV.Net, and Trip Advisor. Membership in the organization is open to divers and non-divers, as an individual or family, and one benefit is emergency evacuation to the closest appropriate facility. Family membership is $55 US. In addition they offer typical travel insurance coverage programs at additional cost, but I am researching only the Travel Assist medical evacuation component providing by joining the organization. http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/ http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/membership/individual/ http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/content/815-dan-introduces-travel-insurance.html Anyone familiar with this program? Mura Posted September 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2014 We had a friend who was a scuba diver who told us about this organization. She was a member and so we joined some years ago as well. We've never had to use the service but it's a good backup. We also don't take any of the extra services they offer, but I'm sure they're of good benefit to people who actually dive. StanandJim Posted September 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Anyone familiar with this program? With any of these medical evacuation programs, you have to read the policy very critically in the area where they talk about "closest appropriate facility". You would be very hard pressed, for example, to find ANY COUNTRY in the World today where every medical procedure known to man isn't performed in one facility or another. The key then is to find a policy where the Patient, or their medical proxy, is permitted the most unfettered choice of where treatment will be provided. I_r_a Posted September 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Hi Bfne, We have used them on our last 3 cruises, because their rates were lowest. Fortunately, we haven't needed to evaluate their service. Ira
