Coffee card and OBC questions!

Two questions just for clarification.

We had a BOGO coffee card deal in 2009 and both still have punches left on the original cards - they're the goldish ones that look like playing cards. Are those cards still valid?? I spent such little time on the ship during my last cruise the card never made it out of my bag!

Second, OBC. We've got $250 between the two of us. Am I right that this can be spent on anything...literally anything? Specialty restaurants, casino, excursions? Also if we don't use it, we can't get it cashed out, right? I found a lot of questions about that, but it seems like it's a different form of OBC that can be cashed out, not just regular good-old "perk of the sale" OBC. Right?

Thank you!!

Coffee cards - unused punches are still valid. The unlimited brewed coffee is only available on the original cruise with a card.

OBC - is used to cover the first $250 (in your case) charged to your on board account.

So long as there's one punch left you get the good fresh brewed coffee (yum)...

I'm not sure about using OBC for casino credits?

The brewed coffee does not carry over to a later cruise even if punches are available.

The unused punches can be used for specialty coffee or for brewed coffee, but the brewed coffee will cost a punch

They did away with that quite some time ago due to abuse by people who saved a card with one punch left and then used it over and over and over on subsequent cruises.

Mildly confused. So I bought my coffee cards originally on Sapphire, but it doesn't say Sapphire on them anywhere...so brewed coffee only on Sapphire? But specialty drinks on any of the ships with a punch...yes? Interesting.

Then as far as OBC I'm following it's anything charged to my on board account, but I guess maybe my question is too basic. So we can charge specialty dining, excursions, etc, to our on board account and it all counts? We haven't had any kind of OBC in the past on either previous sailing, so even after 19 nights, this part is all new! Is there anything that doesn't count?

Many thanks!!

The style of the cards has changed to a simple brown design. It will be obvious to the baristas everywhere your card is not eligible for unlimited brewed coffee, regardless of the ship. Specialty coffee drinks? Yes, everywhere!

Yes, ALL your onboard charges are co-mingled and your OBC will offset ALL those charges.

If no one wrote the voyage or ship on the card, they have no way of knowing it was the Sapphire. I had left over card with no name on it and used it on the next cruise. They wrote the name on it that time, and I still got my brewed coffee.

RESPONSE: I just came back from an Alaskan cruise on the Star yesterday. I had a special drinks coffee card left from a previous cruise 80 percent unused. When the waiter came around on the first day asking if we wanted to buy a coffee card, I pulled mine out and asked if it was still valid. He responded that it was. The next day I went to the International Cafe and ordered a coffee mocha, presented my card and it was punched. The next day, I went to the International Cafe to just get a coffee. I was told that my card was invalid and that they only accepted cards purchased on this cruise. Then the young lady said rudely, "If you are looking for free coffee go to the Horizon Court." I replied that I was not looking for "free coffee" since I was attempting to use a card that I had purchased from Princess, had been told that it was still valid, and had, in fact, used it the day before. She told me to take it up with the Purser. I went to the Purser, told them what had happened and the young man I spoke to went to his supervisor. He came back and said that they could NOT honor the card since it had not been purchased on the current cruise. Then he proceeded to try to sell me a new card. No, I did not purchase a new coffee card, and I did not purchase one thing through Princess for the whole cruise. Cheapest final billing I ever had on a cruise. Childish of me I know. That being said, the cruise was wonderful, the staff (other than the young lady at the IC) were great!

This experience was on the Star in July. I have never had an old card turned down for buying "puchable" coffees.

WE are just off the Caribbean Princess and I used my card that I purchased on the Coral in 2010 numerous times at the coffee bar. In fact the server joked that I had a vintage card. Also had it left over from a bone get one free offer.
